Chaps – after a bit of an ‘Incident’ – I have had to have the back end of the car re-panelled.

At the moment its not got a fuel filler hole cut in to it, which I rather like.

I have to put a new tank in, as the other one was holed in the ‘Incident’.

I do fancy just having the filler inside the boot.

What’s the best way to do this?

Is there any issue getting something like this http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/fuel-fill... welded in to the neck of a new tank? (I think some racers do this – hows it done? What should I use?) Its an injected car by the way.

What about the vent pipe if I do have the filler in the boot? Can I just run a pipe with a one- way valve on?

Any implications come MOT time?

Oh and does anyone have a spare tank sitting in their garage by any chance?!

Thanks

Bob

Not sure you will find anyone brave enough to weld your tank if it has been previously used, but you can fit an extension with screw cap by joining it with a rubber pipe (similar to the one in your link), I did this with no problems, don't use silicon pipe as it with perish with fuel,

Thanks.

Yes I hear what you are saying about the welding - a very good point! I will look in to a new one if I go the welded route.

Any info on pipe dimensions? (car is in storage minus tank currently - so I can't measure anything).

Rgds.

If you look at the thread "Thoughts on this beauty/beast" which is here, there is a link to a series of pictures which show a Cat with the fuel filler in the boot.

Just ask Mark direct (seller of the car), sure he'll let you into the secret & probably show you if you are local to him. However, wouldn't surprise me if he built the bits himself :-)

I've seen the car in the flesh, it's a beauty and fantastically rebuilt (& very very fast :-))

He's on Pistonheads as f355gts

Hi I have a JPE style saddle tank with the filler in the boot. I had a plate made up with same bolt pattern that the tank has and then had an extension pipe welded to that plate with a screw top that is now level with the the boot cover. It's then a simple excercise to bolt th extension to the tank with a suitable gasket. I then had the boot cover modified so I have a small flap over the filler held in place with Velcor. Tank already had a separate breather so left that as it was.

Hi Bob

I think the parts I used I must have acquired when buying a previous 7 although I did buy something similar out near Spa (long story)

I'd have thought Think Automotive in Isleworth would be a good place to start, I can take some close up pics if it helps

btw the PM service on here seems to be unreliable at present

Thanks for the response - would have replied sooner but the computer system did not seem to like me!

F355GTS (Mark?) - would that be possible to if you could take a couple close up pictures. Would be very helpful.

A couple of follow on questions . . .

Should one go with having an external fuel pump rather than the internal one? If so - does anyone do a blanking plate to cover the gaping hole?

Vent wise with this filler in the boot - how should one sort that aspect? Run a pipe and install something like this at the end of it? http://www.newton-equipment.com/tank-vent-valves-i... If so - how long should the pipe be and where to locate it?

Best wishes

For the vent I'm using one of these
