It looks immaculate and I for one don't think it's over priced. I've gone from a Duratec R500 to a Cosworth BDR of the same era as the Supersprint recently and I absolutely love it. They've got bags of character, make all the right noises and are genuinely wonderful to drive. Go for it!
"Thanks..
Do you a the Q plate as a problem..guessing more of that age/ Crossflows were on a Q "
Personally I'd allow around £1500 quid less for a 'q' over a regular plated car of equivalent spec.
I have a crossflow and wasn't interested in q plates and I don't think I'm alone. You can't re register so it will always be a q. Nothing intrinsically wrong with that, but come resale time your market will be more limited and price should reflect that.
Having said that, it looks like a nice example.

It looks very nice - better than than many of the re-hashed, re-painted and modernised efforts I've seen of late.
I shouldn't worry too much about a Q plate (it simply means that the car wasn't built from all new parts)but it might have an effect on re-sale as mentioned.
I seem to remember it's been advertised for a while and with winter rapidly approaching you might well be able to do a deal and get a few quid off to offset the Q?
I had one of these years ago and it was fantastic - go on, you know you want to!

I have a 4 speed. I can "leave the grid" in 4th
The main problem with a 4 speed is that you may find you run out of (safe) revs on a motorway. It's not advisable to take Crossflows above 6,000 rpm for any length of time.
One thing you should check is, has the cylinder had been modified for unleaded fuel. I had to get my Crossflow modified in 2000 when old style leaded petrol was being withdrawn. It would have been possible to keep driving it on unleaded but the faff of having to keep putting in lead substitute additives was too much.

My one is also a Q......and live axle.......'.and four speed, it was also originally fitted with the long clam mudguards.
Now this all adds up to a bit of a dud buy at first glance,it's not though, it's way more fun than the sum of all the parts should be. There's a hint of nostalgia with these old ones which the track focused modernised ones miss out on. The chrome, the smell and the amazing racket with the carbs and crackety banging exhaust, it's like a vintage race car for the price of a Morris minor and as reliable and repairable as a Fiesta.
I never seem to manage to post pictures on PH but if you want to read a very long thread about mine, go to SELOC forums, in SELOC chat, search for a thread about Caterham7 banger and mini you should find it, any q's, ask me there.
Edited to add no gap between caterham and 7.
