Hi,

can anyone tell me the combustion chamber volume of a unmodified 1.8 VVC head? Im measuring 31-32ml, is that correct?
How much skimming is required to compensate the compression loss when the edges around the valves get removed? (porting 145ps head to 160ps)

Thanks!

31-32cc is about right for an unmolested head, if the valve seats are recessed into the chamber and you correct this, then around 8 thou should return things to near normal. I would take the opportunity to peen the fire rings before skimming to consolidate the material and eradicate any porosity/voids, this will greatly reduce the chances of head gasket failure, I would also hardness test the head before spending time on it.
