Morning All,

Can any one explain why the Caterham classic prices seem to buck the general Caterham price trend.

I've now found 2 2013 1.4 Classic with either 1,000 or 8,000 miles on for 15 - 16k.. Where as 2000 plate 1.6 roadsports with 20-30k miles seem to command similr money.

What am I missing ? I'm looking to possibly buy one later this year but are the 1.4 just much less popular ?

Cheers

In my opinion, many people are overly concerned with power/0-60 times and bragging rights at the pub, so the standard 1.4 isn't as popular.
Having said that, the 1.4 combined with a 5 speed isn't anywhere near as good as a 1.4 with 6 gears, where as the bigger engines have enough torque to cover the gaps between ratios

I bought my 1.4 Classic from CC in 2011 and specced it up with black pack, weather equipt, lowered floors, leather, heater, Momo, red button etc and it came out £1000 above my target budget of £20K. It was always intended as a tourer, and now with 13k miles on, has done France 4 times and Spain once. When I bought, I asked CC about teh 6 speed box and they felt it wasn't necessary as I had no intention of going on track.

So obviously, its horses for courses - just standing still it looks fast, nothing to prove and does the job admirably. Dare I mention 50mpg on tour. Sure, there is the odd day that the hooligan wishes for a bit more power - who doesn't, but that is not very often and I still have to keep the eyes peeled for cameras and cop cars in case I am inadvertently threatening the National speed Limit.

And the sticker on the roll bar ------

Cheers Guys.

I still need to arrange a test drive in one but I'm thinking the 1.4 is enough to really use on the roads much more and it will be wasted 90% of the time, I'm not that worried about outright speed as I'm sure all speeds are going to feel twice as fast with my backside that close to the floor smile
