I used Lloyd and White for my first Caterham, a new R400, this year. A low annual mileage is normal, I went for 3K but they weren't interested in the NC built up on my previous weekend car. The say the premium will come down as I build a NCB on the Caterham.
I've got my son on the policy too, which affects the premium.

You'll need to earn NCB on. a second car, but most will allow you some credit for good history. The main insurers that have reasonable premiums are REIS, competition car, Adrian flux, frank pickles. There are others, but most insurers have silly premiums or won't cover you.
It is worth considering whether you intend to take it on a trackday - some provide this cover built in. Most of us are on limited mileage, and don't use it for business travel or commuting.
You will find common restrictions are garage get the car overnight if you are at home and not using station car parks. If they want you to put a tracker in remember the battery on the car will only last a few weeks before going flat, so better to find an insurer who understands the car and doesn't need one!

Congratulations Peter!
I'd suggest joining the Lotus7 Club www.lotus7.club as you will get a decent additional discount from specialist insurers (not that 7 insurance is that much anyway), as well as access to loads of advice etc on blatchat, and access to loads of social stuff with other owners from all walks of life.
You need to decide whether you want trackday insurance included, or whether you're going to stick to road use (somewhat bizarrely some insurers will offer either trackdays OR windscreen cover!).
There will always be people who say avoid such-and-such insurer at all costs, usually because they've had a bad experience with them, and the bigger the company the more likely that is to happen just by the law of averages.
Have fun!
