My first Caterham is finally with me
Discussion
Hi all.
I wrote my first post right after ordering my Caterham 485R, here in Switzerland: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=143...
Finally I’ve recently collected the car and will include some pictures below.
It is impressive. I really really really like it, finding it addictive. The sensations the car provides are incredible. I have a Go-Kart (Rotax Max 125 engine, for those who know what I’m talking about) and the feeling of the car is pretty similar to the Go-Kart, but with much more power.
In just 3 weeks I’ve been though some of the Alps well known passes (Gotthard, Furka, Grimsel and Klausen), and this Sunday I’ll drive the Susten pass. This must be very similar to “motoring heaven”.
On 22nd of September I’ll have my first track day in Spa. Hope it won’t rain because going through wet Eau Rouge on Avon ZZR’s could be some “serious” thing.
I’ll join the barbecue at Schotz on 3rd July, as starting of the Seven International Meeting in Saint Moritz. It will be great to meet any of you that is attending too.
And I’ll be glad to share drives and time with other owners living not far from my area (Zürich). Feel free to send me PM and we’ll meet up for a drive.
Take care!

Yes, it is the CAT what you see on the side.
The color is from the Volkswagen Group. The name is Jazz Blue (LW5Z is the reference).
I've been hesitant until the end on the color. I did not like it too much when seen it in VW and Audi's, but once finally seen it in my car, I think it is ok.

Are those rear lights standard issue now?
Yes I was curious about those rear lights too? Also looks like there are small reflectors on the bottom of the rear wings, I assume because they are needed as they are not on the two separate lenses?
Not sure if I like them or not, as we have all been so used to the caravan rear lights for the last 30 odd years!

What strikes me is that the rear lights aren't the best. Here in Oz they have quite a choice of LED units on the market. I can basically mimic the current units, but in LED which is a route I went down, but the dimensions aren't 100% the same. I can match the width if I recall but not the height. The best ones were 10mm taller as you looked at the front face of them. I thought the overhang off the light bracket would be naff.
Or do I do without the brackets?
Do the new UK Caterham's come with different rear lights? I think I prefer the rectangular rear lights to domed or circular ones. Options!

Those rear lights and the small reflectors, are what is needed here in Switzerland to make the car road legal.
Being honest, when I went to order the car last year, I really liked more the classic rectangular lights. However, the more I see these rounded ones, the more I like them.
Last year, when attending to the british car concentration at Lausanne, I saw a french 485 with three round lights per wing. I think it is too much, but it's just a matter of owns taste.
See picture below.
