Went for a quick run out today and after a few miles noticed the warning light was still on the speedo, turns out the fan belt has snapped. How easy is it to remove the nosecone? Ive only had the car 18 month scratchchin

when you say nosecone. Do you mean the fibreglass bit at the front that is held on with 4 dzus fasteners (or 2 depending on age)?

As in you take off the bonnet, undo the fasteners and take it off.

No, you must mean something more complex.

Flat blade screwdriver with a wideish blade. A stumpy one if you have Duz's at the bottom.

They will need about a 1/4 turn anti-clockwise to undo them. If the nosecone hasn't been off for a a while they may be a bit stiff, particularly the ones underneath. Just apply more force if this is the case. They may release with a loud click., but normally need no more force than the bonnet catches.

the nosecone will then just lift off.

Even mechanically inept me has never had any trouble removing or putting back the nose cone. My car is quite old so only has two Dzus fasteners on the underside.

A short handled flat bladed screwriver works best but I've even use a 2p piece at times smile

If you can't get the nosecone off, there isprobably room enough to get a pair of ladies tights round the pulleys which should be enough to get the light off. Jus make sure you tie them off tightly - a granny knot is preferable to a reef knot.

Wow; you've had your Caterham 18 months and never removed the nose cone?

This must be some kind of record. Either that or today is April 1st laugh

Sorry all, didnt realize how easy that was. The alternator belt is a bit more tricky though as i have an anti cavitation tank and need to remove top and bottom hoses to get belt through maybe the tights are the better option

I think you can replace the belt without disconnecting the hoses to the anti-cav tank. Undo the top (breather) hose, loosen the jubilee clips holding the tank so you can slide it off the mounts, then thread the new fan belt over the tank and hoses. Re assemble.

I wouldn't know where to start with building a house, and doubt if I could ever lay a bricks in a strait line, Sorry to hear you have had issues with the car they are normally quite reliable

Oh , the old 'of course I work on my own car thread; oh you don't ? ' thread . Caterhams are for driving and if you like doing your own stuff that's just fine - for many it is the raison d'etre of ownership . I don't- all DIY bores me rigid and I am hopeless at it but somehow I have managed to do nearly 20 years of Seven owning without mishap. I can do my own nosecone but am not sure this makes me a better human being ...

My position too. The main reason I got used to taking the nosecone off was that I found it was easier to attach the Timing Strut for sprinting than trying to attach it with the nosecone still on.
