Bought My Partner a new Caterham Today
Discussion
I have today placed a deposit on a factory built Caterham for my partner.
The build slot is for pre-christmas as I am buying him it as a christmas/birthday present.
Colour and Spec have still to be chosen, but we are considering a Sprint or a 1.6 Roadsport.
Anyone have any thoughts on which one to go with?

Just seen your thread on Blatchat. The Sprint seems well specced....ecept for its 1400 engine which I guess isn't going to be a 130 bhp Supersport version....The engine needs to be really revved to perform and unless the car comes with a 6 speed gearbox (and I'm betting it doesn't) it may disappoint you on the road.
You want the car for touring don't you? Then the Roadsport is going to be the best option - I am lucky enough to have the choice of 2 Caterhams and one of them is a 115bhp Roadsport 5 speed. It's a nice motorway car and performs adequately on the twisty stuff too, with enough torque and power to hustle along nice and swiftly, without the need to keep it on the boil.

As a first 7 for your partner I am sure they would be more than happy with either and there is a lot to be said for not having too much power to begin with. Infact from personal experience ( I had a 1.6 VX for 2 years) 100 bhp is ample to have plenty of fun on the road or track. However the 1.6 Roadsport is a great car, easily upgradeable and will sell far more easily down the road.

What! Nooooooo.
Boxsters are lovely cars, but very, very different to a 7.
Did he try an SV chassis? Did he take the car out for a drive? Is he a petrolhead for whom the experience is more than what's on Radio 4?
Note that 7's do take some getting used to. At 6'4" and 16st (or so), I'm well and truly in the "salad dodger" category but fit snugly in a std. 7 chassis...it's a different fit to a normal car, but when you're used to it, normal cars are the ones that feel odd.
Each to their own I guess, and having your other half buy you a Boxster is hardly slumming it. Do you have a sister (preferably one who likes Astons, Lambos and Ferraris)?
