I have just got my hands on a original lotus 7.
What were the differences in the first cars around 1957-1963. The chassis number of my car is 1001 and the original registration plate was 5ALY.
It would be much appreciated if you could help me with some details of my car and some details of the first original lotus 7.

Cheers

You need to get in contact with either The Historic Lotus Register or the Lotus 7 Club. They should be able to point you in the direction of the history of your car. Chris Rees's book "The Caterham Seven" or Jermy Coulter's book "The Lotus Seven" - both feature production lists and chassis number blocks.

The Seven Club website would be my first port of call (www.lotus7club.co.uk).

Some of the UK specialists carry a good few spares for the earlier cars. They all advertise in the excellent Lotus 7 club Mag (low Flying). Membership is about £30 a year iirc.
