300 Caterhams to Race at Brands

Caterham Festival could be biggest yet

The Caterham Festival returns to Brands Hatch in October for what the organisers hope will be a record-breaking weekend of exciting action involving the world's most-raced car, the Caterham Seven.

In excess of 300 Caterhams are expected at the Kent circuit over the weekend of 9/10 October for a total of 18 races, with cars from France, Germany and across mainland Europe and drivers from as far afield as Japan, the USA and New Zealand.

It's the third time that the biennial event has been held at Brands; the first was in 2000, when 250 cars took to the track to celebrate the British marque. In 2002, 300 cars made the pilgrimage.

"We very much hope that the total number of competing cars will be well over 300 this year," said Caterham Cars managing director Simon Nearn. "Brands Hatch is the perfect venue for the Festival and the atmosphere is always very special. The 2004 event is going to be the best yet."

The Festival will provide a dramatic stage for the final rounds of the Powertrain Caterham R400 Challenge, the Autosport Caterham Eurocup, the Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge, the three Caterham Graduates Championships and the evo Caterham Academy. There will also be rounds of the German and French Caterham championships and a special all-comers Open race.

There will be qualifying and racing over both the Saturday and the Sunday, with testing on the Thursday and Friday. In addition to the track activity there will be displays of historic Sevens and concours Caterhams, plus a chance to see the full range of the manufacturer's road-going models. Some 300 members of the 7 Owners Club are expected also, with their cars, for a
club rally.

Further spectator information, including ticket prices, will be available
soon at the Caterham websites: www.caterham.co.uk and www.caterhamracing.com

Does anyone know any more about the 'open' race? And is it the indy circuit or the GP?

Indy Circuit. Not sure on the details for the open race. Might be worth giving Claire Nixon a call at the BARC.
