Seven only trackday at the Nurburgring
Discussion
Hi All,
I've been going to the Ring for the last 5 years and have pretty much given up on the tourist days there. The lack of third party insurance on tourist days is just to big of a risk to really go for a committed lap. So for the last 2 years I've done private trackdays and for me it's the only way to drive the Nordschleife.
I was wondering if we could get enough sevens together to have a seven only trackday at the ring. I imagine we'll need 160 or so cars to make it affordable. I've put a post on the L7 Club forum Blatchat, and had some postive feedback but I think to get the numbers it would have to be open to other 7 type kitcars. I would just like to lap the Nordschleife with similar cars and not have 2 ton cruise missiles lapping at the same time.
I'll be posting on other forums to try and get a rough idea of numbers to see if this is even a feasable.
Let me know if your interested.
Cheers

Assuming this will happen next year you can count me in. However, I think you are pissing in the wind just with 7type cars. At least include lotii and tbh, even though it would be nice to get a load of nails there I think it will need to be an any car job.
Based on the expense etc. of a day out like that and getting there, I would not entertain it without a back up car. This would inevitably be one of the 2 ton barges you are not keen on.
I think one of the issues you may encounter is the ring not letting you book far enough in advance to make this happen. Obviously, I would be happy to be proved wrong.

Tell me , does the car need to be road legal on the trackdays , like it does for tourist days ?
Basically what I am realy asking , is can I bring a caterham race car ?
No, you can bring a race car, as TF rules should not apply. Slicks should also be OK.Basically what I am realy asking , is can I bring a caterham race car ?
I'm in depending upon dates. Who would run the day logistically? I presume you'd allow "european" trackday rules, i.e. overtaking either side, etc?
Hi All,
Thanks for the replies, it's all pie in the sky at the moment. I just wanted to get a feel for how many people would be interested to see if this is even worth pursuing.
I'd like it to be run by a British TDO, as I understand that some of the European TDO's require you to have 3rd party insurance. My plan was to see how many cars we could get together and then approach a TDO to see if they would take on the organisation of the event. If the numbers were high enough I could potentially find the capital to start the ball rolling.
So keep those replies rolling in
Cheers

try Jonny Leroux at Bookatrack jonny.leroux@bookatrack.com
or
Chris Hoey at Circuit Days chris@circuit-days.co.uk
Both have experience opperating on the continent
I was at the Nurburgring GP circuit & Spa with Jonny last month (wow Spa is great , for me , as good as the Ring , though a slightly different animal)
I am sure they would know the joys & pitfalls (war stories !) of organising Ring trips , not to mention the economics !

Can't imagine you'd get enough 7s to make an exclusive day viable, its a mega cost to rent for the day, a long way beyond Uk track rental & you could look at a massive loss if you couldnt fill the day.
A lightweight sports car day, say sub tonne cars, so 7s, Elises, Mx5s etc may have more legs & thus potential numbers.
Don't think BAT have had a 'ring day, the man to talk to in Uk really is Darren at-
http://www.destination-nurburgring.com
Or the European operators.

BAT have done the ring. Best track day I've ever done. Would be right up their street too seeing as they have a dozen or so Caterhams available to hire. A lightweight sports car day, say sub tonne cars, so 7s, Elises, Mx5s etc may have more legs & thus potential numbers.

Between bookatrack, circuit days and dest-nurburgring there's plenty to talk to.
