Duratec Alternator Wiring
Discussion
Hi,
Can anyone tell me the destinations of the smaller wires out of the alternator, two of them were joined together and went to +ve, the other one went through a bulb then to +ve. I have ditched the bulb as i didnt need a visual ind as it goes through the digi dash, so joined them together and put then both to a dedicated +ve but i dont seem to be getting any charge from the alternator. Neither of the smaller wires have an output when the alt is running.
Any clues would be of help.

Can't type quick enough but I was going to say the same - the windings need a little current to start things going particularly if it's brand new.
Edit: The bulb is needed as this limits the current flowing when it's not running or there's no charge. The second wire is the reference that compensates for a voltage drop when it's under a heavy load. Best not to run it with either of these disconnected as damage to the alternator and/or electrics can result.
