Underway re-building my SV for the track only and changing the 1600k to a DVA 1800k, with around 180-200bhp. The car had a standard 4-1 very short branch manifold and CiC silencer - Caterham std stock.

I'm considering different options with the primary focus being on it being quiet enough and giving it good performance obviously. Not so worried about looks as it's going to have a hard life, but it's no use to me if I can't get onto the track in the first place.

Induction will be DTH Jenveys with an airbox to reduce noise there, so only the exhaust to consider.

Anyone running one of the VHPD set ups from Caterham and any comments on noise levels? Are they repackable as well?

There's a perenial debate on 4-2-1 versus 4-1 systems, I'm kind of leaning towards 4-2-1 anyway and not worried and stainless loveliness, just outright performance whilst remaining at a level I can get onto the circuits with.

wavey Hello stranger!

I can recommend the Raceco repackable titanium silencers to get you through almost any static noise tests - I'm fine on 98dB days with mine. I suspect drive-by will be more dictated by your intake than exhaust noise.

I think I run a 4-2-1 manifold.

Hi Jeremy, thanks for that. I've had a chat with Raceco and certainly the reviews I've read indicate it's likely to be the quietest.

Unfortunately Raceco don't do the headers as well and having custom headers built to the car is a pain given it's in France and although I'm sure there are people capable here, it's easier to try and buy a whole system. I may see if Caterhamm will sell me just the manifolds and then add the Raceco can afterwards . . All complicated by it being an SV of course hehe

I just don't wanna go with the std Caterham can and then find out at the first tough test it fails and I'm high and dry, prefer to over spec and not worry about it.

ETA - Caterham will sell me seperately the manifolds and collector, at least they are stainless, can't tell me the diameter, but will charge me 756 of my pounds for the privilege .. . eek having been on the end of their delivery pricing as well it'll be 800 pounds all together I imagine. Then add the Raceco and it's getting eye watering . . .

I use a Powerspeed 4-2-1. Great service from them. Based in Kent.
No problems with noise levels and a choice of cans.
Don't forget to haggle thumbup
