Hi guys I hope someone can help me.
I am looking for a Caterham now I sold my Westie.
I know of a 1992 Caterham HPC vauxhall engine on carbs. The car is in fantastic condition,in burgundy ( Spell )colour and is very well looked after seven. Have checked that it's a genuine HPC and I am happy that it is.
I know the car pretty well as the guy owns it, its been on our club for years.
What is a fair price for those this days? The guy is selling it and I need to know if the price he is asking is fair. Looked on the web for HPC's for sale to get some idea on price but can't find any.

Any help will be great.

Cheers.

Ok I spoke to the guy earlier and he is asking for £14.500 for it.

The car is very clean, runs well, has all the right things and is an HPC for sure.
30,000 miles on the clock.

Is the price right? I just can't find another one for sale to compare prices.
Are they that rare? Or just people own them never sell them?

Cheers

Given the requirement you have for an HPC model I think it probably is.

If you want a certain high level of performance and this car gives it then that is fine: given the build and history qualities you list that seems a fair price.

I personally would be after a high output LS V8 model and that would certainly fetch that much. But I like V8's.

Up to you.

Thanks Steffan.
As much as I love v8's I just think they are too heavy for that size car.......but please that's only may opinion and this is not what this tread is all about.
Thanks for your input and you have put my mind at rest......... the price seems right.

Cheers.

You are quite right V8's are too heavy for lightweight cars.

I still have a Dutton with a V8 in it. Unsafe at any speed the entire chassis visibly flexes on and off power at every gear change. The car is undrivable except with extreme caution.

It could not be offered to a novice with any reasonable thought. Even when you have owned it for ten years like me the vicious power on over steer is absolutely challenging. Keeps me awake!
