Hello MIck, 2 more weeks or so then the big push to get cleaned up for the season. A quality finish on a big boat is always a challenge and a compromise. On rotation this year so I swapped my local Route de Grasse and Cap d'Antibes blats with a few track days and blats around the UK in May.
Paint, what a nightmare! They always look better out of the shed or tent though ;-)
Unfortunately I'm not there this year. Been going for the last 6 years, but this year the Boss has decided it's too expensive?
I would be there now otherwise, getting the bottom painted for easter.
He's got myself and the deckie doing it this year! Time to move on after nearly 10 years service.
Lucky to get a rotaion job.
I'm looking to get back on the big ones again, but something based in Palma.
I need to get some more sea time, and start investing in myself again.
Enjoy Barca! great place to lift.

Your not kidding! Its easy being a perfectionist with a Caterham compared with a 50 metre super yacht, (Its the one that did 46 knots in sea trials and was designed as a Red Sea Sea dive boat built by a well known Dutch builder back in 1998... without metioning the name..... Italian for whisper, etc!). I agree Yard expensive and quality is poor, whats going on?? Doing the job your self....reminds me of the old days... Bradfords in Bahamas in floating dry dock, as a Bosun, was not happy when asked to do myself, so Captain turned up with crates of beer and some pumping tunes and protective gear and we had a riot. We were so happy coating the hull . 'Moving on' we all have those low moments but stick with it. The industry has changed and is still changing, small is sweet, STICK WITH IT! Take a deep breath, I guess you have all the tickets like myself, enjoy life, and finish that build. I remember there is some good hill routes on the island plus rallies.
Anyway here are some photos
The paint is flat around the exhaust in the last picture. Was not spotted in the rebuild because I had a big after seeing it after a long season, but if that was the boat and 'P' had painted it then it would be a

The car's looking great Jim!
Did you have it in STP last year, or maybe the year before?
I found the service in MB92 very good, and price wise, about the same as STP and Catergena. It's all swings and roudabouts, but at the end of the day it all works out even.
The problem I have now is finding a yard that will lift a 7.2m beam and let the crew do the work.
Adriano will in May/June which is a bit late, but I hate the place! No services, and it's still not finished, so building dust everywhere.
As you say though, there's hardly any movement jobwise, so I have to stick it out.
I need time with a chief to get my Y tickets. I prefer the engineering to being captain.
I'm getting stale here.
When you're back on the rock, PM me, and I'd be happy to knock the froth off a couple and talk sevens.

Hello Mick, never been to STP, years ago spent some time in Palma on a boat and hired a car at weekends to explore and have fun so know the island that way. I'm on the deck side, but only the other day I was installing a water heater in the engine room and then dealing with the blocked plumbing in one of the cabins and changing light bulbs, etc so I am not one of those air conditioned bridge officers!
You can always try this place in Toulon, France. Then of course there is La Ciotat which have a good repitation.

Have found them to be good in the past and they can lift upto 500 tonnes. However any saving you find will be spent on getting there and back on fuel.
Been gentle with the car up to now, however I am determined to do some track days this year as I have become more confident with the power and on the road and I cannot trust myself. I am ready for the added service and engine re-build costs of a k-series if tracking. Truely believe in the saying 'if you can't afford it then don't do it' saying - funny enough I hear myself saying that alot in Super yachting at the moment as budgets are squeezed!

Hi Jim,
thanks for the link. It wouldn't open for some reason, but not important, because as you say, the fuel would outstrip any saving.
Boss has me moving the boat at 1000 rpm now! Blowing oil mist out of the aircoolers.
I tried explaining they need to kick the second turbo in for half an hour at least every 3 hours to clear them out, and that by running slow we're running up the operating hours.
He hears me, but he ain't listening!
He'll hear me when I have to replace 32 injectors at a couple of grand a piece at 3000hrs!
As you say, you're either yachting or you're not.
Anyway, we're booked to lift at Adriano on 15th May now.
I would normally be out now in Barcelona, and we'd be having a few, and talking Sevens,
and the boat would be all ready for Semana Santa!
Enjoy your track time, and exploring the limits. You'll find it very progressive on those 13" CR500's.
