Hi,

I'd be interested to know what tyre options people have experience with on a 14" wheel. I see the Toyo 888 is available, but to be honest I'm going to spend far more time on the road and with a 1.4 I don't want to over endow the car with grip. Slip is part of the fun and the learning process.

Any recommendations? I've currently got normal road tyres on the back and classic spec tyres on the front (were OEM on a 205 GTi apparently...)

Cheers

Buy Yokohama a021r tyres, they're great for the road, very grippy but reportedly quite progressive and good in the rain.
They are available in 185x60x14, but twice the price of 185x70x13 frown

George Polley motorsport sell them.

Wot he said, i boughtA021Rs in January and have been impressed with them, very progressive at the limit.

However if you want to go backwards at the drop of a hat try ZV3s but be it at your peril nono

Toyo 888s will out stick most but be careful in the wet!

Zv3's for maximum slip, though I've found them OK for the road and I can't wear them out, almost 9,000 miles and they're still as good as new. I agree part of the fun is predictable slip and to me the Avon's give what Caterham intended, a reasonably lively (125) car that you can drive on the edge.

On the other hand you can get outrun by a lesser car in the corners irked the next tyre I would try is the Yokohama AO21R. I thought about changing to 13" but tbh I can't justify another set of wheels and not sure how well they look on an SV.

I had the ZV3 ditch finders. At times made the car feel nervous & the driver even more so.
Another vote for the AO21's. They seem to last well as well.

From personal experience on Stelvio on the Austria side with snow, the Italian side with black ice the 21's can't be beaten for all around great tyre. We have 48's on 13" rimes but use te 14" rims exclusively with the 21's

Thanks for the advice. Wow though - pricey for the Yoko A021-R 14 inchers! Looks like they are the best option for all round road and the odd trackday. If I go down the repeat trackday route, I think 13" wheels might be a better bet anyway - cheaper tyres and helps to gear down the five speeder!
