Afternoon all,

Keen to get the Caterham out and arrange the MOT, but a ring round a few places has thrown up multiple answers regarding MOT emissions confused

I've had:
Yup, needs to be checked
Nope, doesn't need to be checked
Yes, needs checking but yours is a bit different so I'll have to find out.

Car is a July 1996 pre-SVA, kit built car and not running a cat.

How can I help reduce the confusion for my local tester?

Section 7.3 has a flow chart with a box describing the rules for Kit Cars.
If your's is kit built (not factory built) and pre August 1998 then for emissions purposes it is to be considered frirst used beore 1st August 1975. The flow chart shows that cars first used before that date are Visual smoke test only.

Mine is December 96 kit built. As Shaun E says, definitely Visual smoke test only.
Code for "kit built" is in the VIN number.

Thanks guys, phoned by local station and once I'd given them the VIN, they did indeed confirm visual check only.

Which is good!
