Thanks Jonny. I am really after an R400 engine - hoping that there might be one sitting under someones bench following the R400 changeover from Rover to Ford engines.

Tom

The majority of rover to duratech were done on a part exchange basis, so didn't tend to get tucked under benches.

The vhpd units Jonny has are pretty much the same bar dry sump etc which can all be added.

What are you building now ?

Hi Dave - Its for a clubmans Mallock, which currently has a 1600 k series with about 130 bhp (....WOW!). Clubmans now has a class for up to 240bhp.

I am thinking about a 220 bhp + k series as it should be a relatively easy job, and hopefully not too pricey (using the existing dry sump, engine mounts, bellhousing exhaust etc) - and was wondering .... where did all the R400 race engines go? Don't suppose you know who ended up with them?

Am I right that the VHPD is about 190 bhp and R400 about 220?

Cheers
Tom

VHPD fitting in Superlight R were 190 bhp as standard and K series R400's are 200 BHP. There are some SLR's with rollerbarrel conversions that are around 208 bhp with nothing except the RB's and a remap I believe.

The R400 K to Duratec conversion was around 6 years ago - the 25 or so engines involved will have long since found new homes.

R400 is just a fraction over 200 - it's basically a VHPD with roller-barrel throttle bodies.

I think (fairly sure because I've seen the internals of mine!) the the R400 K has forged pistons, and toughened rods and crank (I'm not sure if the VHPD has these though)

The R400 has a stock crank and rods (although the rods are weight selected) and Omega forged pistons. The later R400s had Vulcan heads rather than MS or MS2 and roller barrels.

Thanks for the replies and wealth of knowledge. So what I probably should have posted is "220+ bhp K series wanted" - I don't fancy the expense of building a new engine, but if anyone had a good used one for sale......
