S3 Boot cover

Still building my Seven back up after a bit of a spruce up, and need to know how to best fit the boot cover at the front over the harnesses. I've got a piece of square ali, with sections cut out of it at the moment, with strategic parts of it wrapped in black duct tape and the boot cover screwed on with self tappers! Not my job, a previous owners! Looks crap. What is normally used? Or are there any other better suggestions?

My cover had a steel strip in it at the front edge. I made a template out of scrap steel to make sure the holes were correct for the harness bolts, clamped it over the cover and drilled through. It was then easy to fit the cover and use the harness bolts to secure the front edge.Like this:

I have thought of one problem - I've got a Roadsport cage. thanks for your post though, the principle should be the same.
