In the water rail I have these 2 sensors. One I presume in water temp for the ECU, is the other another temp for the gauge or is it a pressure switch?

(yes I am stripping the car completely without an engine guide or assembly manual, i'll startr another thread about the project sometime)

Second question, whats this sensor in the rocker cover. Evidently the coilpacks are on the plugs, so whats this other sensor, is it a knock sensor?

The existing 1600SS engine is coming out for a 1800 DVA unit, and a new loom will be made, but want to make sure I know what everything is and labelled so I can decide on whether we keep it with the new set up . .

All helps appreciated.

The two on the water rail are both temperature sensors, the single wire for the gauge. The other sensor is a cam phase sensor for the ECU.

Johno,

Have a Gargle for the Haynes K-Series manual. It's findable online and has pictures + explanations and covers the 1.6 and 1.8 engines and can be easily downloaded to your iPad.....

Thanks Steve, it's on the long list of to do's smile

The intention was to run the car as a going concern as i bought it fully functional as a track car only. But just couldn't do it, so now stripped almost bare ... Re-build over 3-4mths ready for Spa in June wink

Here's the link to the Elise service manual which had a K series engine section. It might be of use to you?

Thanks GMBH, been useful already.

Need to decide where to take the oil temp for the dash from. There is a remote OPS currently taken off the filter housing and and another sensor in the T piece, which I could use or there is a temp sensor tapped into the bell housing (dry sumped). Haven't got an oil cooler in the system, but thinking it may benefit from one with more power and having a greater volume of oil, in which case where to take the temp from then, looks like the VVC head has a temp sensor in there, but is that for the VVC mechanism or general oil temp?

Do you wanna take the temp of the oil on the way into the engine or on it's way out?

Cheers Ben, so the side of bell housing unit that's in there currently. It's not wired at the moment, but making up new loom so will include this into the digital dash unit as the ECU won't care about oil pressure and temps and will therefore loom separately . . .

Booked in to see a very nice fella who's going to re-skin some of the car in a couple of weeks and blast and coat suspension parts, then back to France for paint and assembly. . . . Sounds so easy, except needing a load of other pieces and trying to get them all to work together.

Nitron phoned today, they're finished servicing the Griffith's dampers and building the dampers for the Caterham as well, Mark Jefferies has put them together for me to his own recipe smile

Should start a thread on the project really, maybe someone will find it interesting, certainly far more major than initially intended, but wanted a proper project over the winter. I''m also quite sure many will challenge lots of my decisions, but that's half the fun. Really looking forward to actually driving it the most though smile
