Seems about right to me?

It looks like a Roadsport with a 5 speed box (and probably an open diff) so given it's age, condition and mileage I would think it's about right. The Superport R bit is not a model but an engine conversion to 1800 if not already, ECU and roller barrel induction. It looks like it has the standard Roadsport exhaust as well where the collector is inside the body not outside.

Not exactly the best time of year to sell a Caterham either!

Me too.

I reckon the 170bhp maybe a little optimistic if its a standard head with Supersport cams.
The Roller barrels are nice but the exhaust could do with upgrading IMO

There's obviously more to this Caterham lark than meets the eye!

Is there a worthwhile buyers guide anywhere? A brief Google doesn't help.

I would advise joining the Lotus 7 club and getting to one of your local club meets.

Most owners will be happy to bore you to tears with talk of diff ratios or the benefit of carbon rear light blocks wink

You'll probably be able to pick up a passenger ride or too and get more of an idea of what car is going to suit you.

Optional extras are completely different to "normal" cars and it will pay in the long run to get a clear picture of what you want before you buy.

Good Hunting

But only if you can deal with being overtaken by pushbikes!

i don't agree........120BHP seven is plenty for the road.....it's all in the cornering and on the brakes.

I sold my 2005 Ex race car (that I built) for 7k........yes it was battered but mechanically sorted. There is nothing to them..........you could get race winning, good ex racer for 10/11k.....spend 3 on it.......and it would be immaculate....

I just sold a R300 for 24k......one year old (again a race car).....

no way would I pay that much for an eleven year old Caterham - paint jobs are 1k....!

bks! 140 isn't enough for the road, cater hams need to live on the twisties, and with short straights the "go everywhere at 40" crowd ruin your run out. With r300or higher power, you can get on with things without having to choose between frustration and recklessness.
Just my 2 penneth" like wink

Not for an SV it isn't, nor can you get a new SV for that.
S.V's will always fetch a premium. I've never seen one for much under 18k.
A bog standard Sigma (Not enough poke IMO) SV kit without paint or any extras is nearly 22K.
I recon 160/170 hp (R300 power)is just about right for a road car. Although that left me wanting more after a year.
Caterham have a couple of lower priced ones in that look nice, although they are lower powered variants, and the cheapest is around 19K for a 2002 model.

Broadly agree with the two posters above.

Just like to add that you can have a brilliant time on the road with 100bhp if thats where your budget is.

Whilst I agree that ex racers are great value I think they need to be to tempt buyers away from an imaculate road only 7

i wasn't trying to be rude about the car in question.......it just seems to be lots of money (in my opinion) for a car of that vintage.

I think sometimes Caterhams are seen as more complex than they really are. They are pretty basic beasts.......when you've built them, raced them, crashed them, re built them etc i'm always just staggered at something costing so much for what it is.

That being said.......if you want immaculate......don't buy an ex race car - as they have all been into something or through some gravel etc.

No! I didn't think you where being rude either! Sorry if my post made it look that way.
I agree with you that caterhams are expensive for what they are. But I like the fact that residuals are good!

I was on the market for an SV for about 8 months before I found what I was after, well almost? Finding a S/H Caterham the spec you want is nigh on imposable.

There were a few under 18K on here in the Classifieds, one was a silver 52 plate SV 1600 K series the other was a bit of a ham-fisted bike engeined SV that sold for about £7K-8K

As for how much power you have, it's never enough........currenly I have 200bhp which is a hoot........I am always looking at CSR 260's in the ads and looking is all I can do for now, SWMBO said NO.

Spec and condition seem to mean more to values than age with Caterhams.
