Second is a fantastic result though given the price of the car against the competition....its half the price of the Cayman too.
I am baised though having test driven that very Supersport last week and placed my order for March delivery
Oooo what was it like???!!! Congratulations. I'll be doing the very same thing within a few months, with any luck. I am baised though having test driven that very Supersport last week and placed my order for March delivery
This seems like smashing news to me ... my daily driver is a Cayman S ... and yesterday my Caterham kit was delivered !
I think this means that I agree with Autocar.
Some flies in the ointment though.
Driving home last night I was in a 30 zone (doing less than 30) and saw 3 kids on scooters ... so I slowed down a bit more ... then one of them looked like he might step into the road without looking my way ... so I stopped, no drama, just stopped. The lorry behind didn't. Goodness only knows how fast he was going, the 20 yard skid marks are a worry. So the Cayman is being carted away today. I'm glad it was my car and not the kids.
Now the Caterham ... after 5 months swmbo supervised the delivery and then locked the garage. My 13 year old Son is tied up with school until Friday 21st and I've committed to him that we will see it for the first time together. So it's in the garage and I can't even look at it for 9 days.
Exciting though.

It was everything I expected it to be, almost as quick as a R300 I've driven before, very noisy, lots of fun though with it not being mine I took it easy.Prices are rising by 4% next week I believe so get your order in quick!
Mine will be reverse colour scheme of press car ie white with orange stripes, roll on March ......

Nice one. Very jealous. Did you spec it as is or add anything? Apart from paint, i reckon i'll leave it as Caterham rolls it out as that's always been my perfect spec for a 7.Prices are rising by 4% next week I believe so get your order in quick!

Woo
Must say, an "ordinary" Cayman was very very good to drive.
All sorts of seasoned racing drivers are literally saying "This is the best handling car I have ever driven". It's just always been under the radar what with the uber-Porsches getting all the attention. It must truly be fantastic.Must say, an "ordinary" Cayman was very very good to drive.
That said, I don't take 'The Best Car Ever' articles TOOOO seriously. They're a good benchmark obviously, but it's a bit like Robbie Williams being voted world's greatest artist in the same year he hit the big time, which no one's gonna say in 30 years' time (or even now).
Why one Seven is better than another is surely just down to set up. Matt Prior says in his blog that the R400 they drove around the same time was nowhere near as good... surely just stick some different dampers on, set it up and enjoy the same feel as the SS but with more power...
On a slightly separate note, just how good are the 'modern' Sevens anyway, what exactly are the noticeable step changes from say, my 1996 K Series car? (no jokes about HGFs etc please) Anyone gone from an older Seven to new, and really did [i]feel[i/] the difference in quality, handling, pace?

Added a few goodies but tried to keep it sensible. So the options I chose were windscreen and weather gear, carbon dash, carbon aroescreen, battery master switch, Superlight stripes, painted '7' grill and clear light pack.
I'll need to add a quieter exhaust to track it but I can buy that further down the line.
As for the finance question, I had to put down a 2k deposit on order, then a further 6k to be paid 10 weeks prior to delivery date and the balance on delivery.
