Can anyone tell me if a 4x4 (sierra) diff is the same as the normal sierra? Looking for a 3.62, and theres a few 4x4s versions going about, just dont want to get the wrong thing. I could take mine off get a 4x4 and compare them back to back but it might end up in a useless diff sitting in the garage.

Thanks

Just had a look on ebay, and obviously the front 4x4 diff is completely unsuitable, but I'm sure you're not asking that.

The 4x4 rear diff casing looks the same, but the one I saw had the driveshafts that bolt onto a flanged shaft attached to the diff.
Caterhams use the slide in shaft type. I don't know how easy it is to convert one style to the other.

It is also important to buy a 7 inch diff not the 7.5.

True i forgot about the splined end of the driveshafts, the 7" 4x4 shows the flanges, but to be honest i never looked. Casing wise they look similiar so the potential for it being suitable was high. Also the the flanges i think go in on splines so might just be a case of removing them and fitting the 'caterham' drivehsafts. See third and fourth photo, third shows the flange/ spline in seperate form and fourth shows splined inners of the spider gears.

The 4x4 uses a 7" diff but it will also be a viscose type LSD and I have been told these are not suitable for Caterhams.

I've bought a few diffs from ebay and I wouldn't get excited by this one - £250 is a bit steep for one that has essentially only had a clean up and new seals. Personally I'd be looking for a cheap original 'untouched' unit and then send it off to Road and Race for an overhaul and LSD. This will be a viscous LSD which would need changed as Jason says. The flanges can be removed but it does involve removing the cover but not 100% sure what else is involved.

I was just after if a 4x4 derived diff could be used, or maybe are the casings the same to accept non OEM components, quaiffe ATB LSD etc for caterham applications. No excitment fealt, i.e excitment barometer needle 0, on a 0-10 level 0 being nill smile
