Fitting Hans Mounting Points
Discussion
Hutchins Hybrid system looks impressive, Thanks for the input, What do the user think of this product range ?
I have a new helmet with hans post, and in the process of doing a fresh foam seat,so i will need a hans system before attempting to work out the correct position for the shoulder straps.
I expect that the correct way is to cut out the top rail and bronze weld another in with the mounts drilled and sleeved in the correct position.
Any thoughts from anyone who has done this.

I have had it done, as have a bunch of other racers. It used to be said that "only Arch could do it" because of need for a certificate to use at scrutineering, but I don't think this is true. The measurements are readily available and a proper outfit can do it and write you a document if you need it. DPR, the caterham racing guys, did mine. They measured me in the car and re-made the mounting points. Couple of hundred quid. You don't notice this when you look at the rail. No scrutineer has ever asked to see anything to confirm I had it done properly.

At my wife's request, I also invested in a HANS Device for the Academy. Ironically though I didn't get chance to use it as my season was cut short due to an unrelated hand injury. Arch made the adjustments for me, which if I recall meant that the new seatbelt posts was about an inch or so closer to each other afterwards. I've since sold my Academy car in favour of a Superlight for road and track days.
Not wanting to pass-up this opportunity though, the HANS device is for sale. It’s the "Pro" version made of carbon fibre, not the cheaper Sport version. As said, it’s never been used and therefore immaculate.

Has to be Arch for Caterham Motorsport - need an Arch-headed certificate available if required.
Don't be fooled into thinking you need to remove your roll-cage, they can do the job with it in-situ.
You need to be there with the car, with your helmet/HANS and with the correct seat (bear in mind it's not advised to have the seat on runners - it should be fixed. Mine comes from Real Essential - http://www.realequipe.com/). You sit in the car, get measured and new mounting points get attached on the chassis. It's a bit more than just drilling a couple of new holes but essentially that's what you end up with.
I took a shunt at Brands which wasn't as bad as couple I've seen this year but would have still caused me more aggro if I wasn't wearing one.

Also, if someone has fitted HANS to a Sigma Academy (metric chassis), I'd be interested to hear about their experience
Hello - Got it exactly for this. Once you get used to the order you need to put everything on (balaclava, sit in, waist straps, crotch straps through metal rings, HANS on, shoulder straps over HANS, shoulder straps through crotch strap loops, shoulder straps through arm restraints and clipped in, tighten, breath in, tighten some more, helmet on, attach HANS straps to helmet, arm restraints on to wrists, reach for key, remember key's in your towcar, undo everything above.........). A lot of people have them now.
