Punctures and trackday tyres - repairable?
Discussion
After fitting a new set of ZZR's, I seem to have picked up a puncture. It is in the centre of the tread and looks like something about 2-3 mm has penetrated it and then pulled back out. It has 'self sealed' with no obvious signs of structural damage and holds pressure for several days. I was wondering what the thoughts were about repairing tyres that may be exposed to track driving and 120 mph.
A common debate. The BS standard that tyre repairs are done to is clear that you can mend punctures. It then comes down to personal preference as to whether you are happy on track with a repaired tyre. In the past I have been (repaired CR500). Having raced for a couple of years now and lived with racing budget decisions, I would probably now buy a new tyre!
