Hi All,
I am sure this has been posted before, but the search function on PH never seems to be working these days.

Appreciate anyone's recommendations for Caterham insurance , with low mileage ( say 1500 to 2000 ), and probably 2 track days a year. Car is 1600, Roadsport.

Thanks

Competition Car Insurance. My policy allows three track days per year. £250

I'm with Caterham Insurance and will never be again. Every year you have to fill in a new huge proposal form, send copies of both bits of your drivers licence... and that's AFTER you've paid! In 35 years of insuring sports cars, I've never had to do that. They never answer an e mail, and try and contact them on the blower and you get stupid answerphone messages saying they are on a blat. Answer the damn phone!

They are in the bin next year.

Rant over (as are they).

Steve,

FWIW I had the same experience with Caterham Insurance but never even got a qoute from them as every time I tried, they never answered the phone.

A quick scan of blatchat reveals this to be the norm!

Thanks for all your replies folks.

Just for your info, I ended up going with Adrian Flux at £230 , with £150 excess. Track day cover would be approx £30 a time additional.

Now I was a bit hasty , as I got a call back from Competition Car Ins, and they could do for £243 , and that includes 5 track days a year ( 2 of which could be in Europe ). So all in all a better deal , albeit with a £2000 excess for track day cover. Missed the boat this time around but will certainly consider them for next year.

Hope that helps anyone else looking at the moment.

Couldn't agree more! I'm still waiting for all the paperwork from last year and it's nearly due for renewal again now - and guess who I won't be renewing with!!!! Heaven only knows what they would be like should you need to make a claim.

Now if you read blatchat you'd see that Caterham car insurance are held in such low regard that even CC don't recommend them any more. The discount I got from Footman James for L7 club membership almost covered the club subs.

Brilliant... even though I have sent them all my documents, and they say they have received them, I just got a letter saying 'as you haven't sent the documents, your insurance is cancelled'. The letter says they are open on Saturdays... are they fk. Now I can't use the car until Monday in case they really have cancelled the policy. Twonks.

Surprised no one mentioned REIS. Very friendly, helpful and competitive.

(saw one stereo type the other day.....man-wife combo, SV, both fully comms setted to the max, both tweed hats and flying jackets on, probably named Arthur and Sue...both 'mental', no offence to either names, wind in there hair doing 59mph in a 60). Am I right in saying Pickles won't insure anything over a certain value? £20k I think. I pay £250 for my Sigma 150 SV through REIS and it's valued at £22k. I am 58 with a clean licence(atm)

Frank Pickles can insure over £20k value. I think you need to phone them up though (ask for Barry) rather than use the on-line quote system.

Cheers

ETA - I am with Frank Pickles paying £117 per year, compared to my Flux renewal which was £211. Frank Pickles underwriter is LV= (Liverpool Victoria) so no quibbles there. Think they use a different underwriting company for >£20k value though.

I phoned them two months ago. Their first question after me telling them it's a Caterham R400 was what is it's value? They couldn't/wouldn't take the quote any further. That's where I got the info from about them not insuring cars worth more than £20k. Let me know if that has changed in the last two months and if so I'll bear them in mind for next years renewalsmile

you're right about teh value potentially being an issue. I met with Barry from Pickles earlier in the year when we set up a discount deal for SKCC members, back then the limit on value was £30k, but i believe as standard its now 20k - although it's still worth talking with them in case of changes. Their ability to offer the cover is entirely reflective of their underwriters, and as we all know insurance underwriters chop and change their minds like the wind.

for what it's worth Barry at Pickles is a top guy, very helpful and very interested in getting and looking after new customers. I think so far they've mopped up about 25 new policies from our club, failing only on 3: age, value (35k) and a bike engined car which they couldnt get near cost wise. Everyone else has seen a healthy decrease in their premium by swithcing across.

Aw diddums.....take it you have a flying jacket, and wife called Sue!

Just thought there no point in giving a load of info about insurance quotes without ages taken into consideration.
