Hi

Hopefully someone can help! I am rebuilding a crashed racing 7. There are three pieces of aluminium honeycomb with the car - a boot floor panel that the tanks rests on, and two top panels which together go over the fuel tank.

It looks like there should be a fourth panel to sit between the tank and the rear skin, resting on the frame. Am I right and do I need an extra piece of honeycomb?

Cheers, Paul

You can get a carbon fibre boot floor .... that is heavier than the plywood one smile

On my 7 there are 3 separate bits of honeycomb panel that sit between the tank and the rear panel. I think, from memory, that they're just siliconed onto the rear panel. Have a look on Caterham Parts webite and search for "rear centre fuel tank panel" and "rear outer fuel tank panel"

Well mine was definately plywood. 2005 factory built R300, and my 2007 SV starter kit.

the conversation is about tank protection kits - these are honeycomb

on mine I have underside, rear and nearside protection panels plus of course the actual boot floor. And your ply wood ahead of the ally floor

Anyone know the best way to fix the boot floor to the side skin ? - mine seems to be siliconed.....badly !!!

I'd suggest that the majority aren't fixed to the side skin. If you race than I understand that the boot compartment has to be sealed because the fuel tank has to be separated from the cockpit. However, in practice you'll need somewhere for all the water to drain when the boot gets soaked in the rain. It's surprising just how much water runs down the rollbar.....

My car hasn't any sealant around the boot floor. The carpet fills the gap reasonably well, and it's surprising how often the floor has to come out. It makes topping up the diff oil much easier smile

Ah, I need to top the diff up so that will be handy !

I was a bit alarmed when I saw a spanner about to drop out one day smile
