I was flicking through the owners manual the other day, and on the front it lists the different models (1997 car) as Classic, Roadsport, Superlight. Then in the engine section it also lists Super Sport with 1.6k, 7400 shift light, 6 speed box, which is what I have. So is Super Sport a subset of Roadsport? Just trying to understand what I actually have!

Classic is a basic entry version. Roadsport is a "tourer" with weather gear, heater etc. as standard. Superlight is a bit more track focused with 6 speeds, LSD, bits of carbon, wide track, big front brakes etc. as standard.
The term Supersport relates to the K series engine and is a factory offered power upgrade (costing approx. £1k) which comprises new ECU and cams and is available on both 1.6 and 1.8. The supersport engine came as standard with the Superlight.
1.6 = 115 bhp. 1.6 Sopersport = 132 bhp. 1.8 = 125 bhp. 1.8 Supersport = 140 bhp.
Hope this helps.

Supersport is just the engine upgrade really, from 115bhp to 135bhp. The 6 speed 'box is not linked to this. It would've been an upgrade on a Roadpsort or standard on a Superlight.

I think that few owners worry about the "proper" designation, mainly because so few Sevens retain their original specification.
When chatting you often hear phrases along the lines of "It used to be..."
However, as stated above "Roadsport" and "Supersport" were used for levels of K series engines. For a 1.6l the Roadsport gave 115bhp and the Supersport 133bhp. With the 1.8l K you got a few more horses and much better torque.

Thanks very much for the info. My chassis plate says "Super Sport" on it and the car is a 1.6 wi heater etc, so I guess what I have is a 1.6 Roadsport with Super Sport engine upgrade. However my car also came with a rolling road print of 152bhp and a £5k invoice from Dave Andrews so it's actually approaching r300 performance. car has more talent thanthe driver anyway!

Cheers
