Hello im a newbie on here (though ive been here silently for a time) and was after some advice smile

Im 20 with two years NCB/driving and im hooked on caterhams. Funnily enough ive never had the pleasure of sitting in one let alone drive one, but even so i am completly obsessed haha.

So obviously with insurance and budget in mind i am currently looking at entry level Caterhams, however after weeks of holding off looking at how much insurance will cost (for fear of my dream being ruined) i went on one of these comparason sites, which qouted me nearly 4K!!!!

Is this to be expected?

Thanks for any replys
Steve

Avoid the mainstream insurers and try a specialist like Adrian Flux (other insurers are available) - the big guys won't know what the hell a Caterham is and will quote you accordingly.

I'm sure some of our younger members will be along shortly (I'm an old fart) with more advice.

Welcome, by the way.

Look at the 7 insurance thread I posted on further down this forum (same page) that will give you the primary specialist insurers and somewhere to start.

you can expect to pay between £140-£600 depending on age and value , all based on a 5k limited mileage policy.
most average folk appear to pay about £250/£350

So I am still in my 20's....for another 6months at least!

I have a 1.6 Roadsport Caterham (Academy) and use Footman James for insurance.
There are quite a few low 20's in this years academy and all of them are insured for road use so its not impossible.

Whereabouts in Hampshire are you? Get yourself to a local meeting and chat to the people there, I'm sure there'll be someone to show you around one:

I'd try specialists who are exactly NOT like Adrian Flucks frankly.

Worth pointing out I'm 31, using the Seven as my daily driver and Flux were actually best for me as they were able to return a quote the gave me a NCB, commuting, 10k plus miles etc.

However, do not despair, if you're going for garaged, limited miles, second car and non NBC accrual, you'd be looking at way, way less - as above - £150-£300 dependant mostly on the variables you can't really control and nothing to do with it being a Seven.
