I know the point of 7 ownership is driving not cleaning, but in the first few weeks of ownership I've done 2 track days (Combe and Cadwell) and driven over a thousand miles, including 400 in one 24 hours period to do Cadwell, and the 7 had earned a good sort out.

Once I had started it seemed churlish not to do it properly. Washed, dried, hand polished and waxed. All plastics and leather treated, tyres dressed.

I'm about 2 months into ownership and loving it so far. Following advice from this forum, I spent my £11k budget on a slightly older, but heavily upgraded car (Super Sport). Mine has a 150bhp Dave Andrews-built engine, 1600 K, Emerald ECU and 7300rpm shift light, 6 speed box and LSD. Other changes include Tillet seats, adjustable AVO suspension, push button starter, Racetech gauges and air-oil heat exchanger.

Have got a half-hood and some other bits on order from Soft Bits (if they ever get round to shipping it). The gearbox is interesting, I read somewhere that 6th on mine (close ratio) is the same as 4th on a normal 5 speed box. To be honest, I can believe it! I am pulling something like 4000rpm at 70mph. The diff is very noisy, but that is mainly a problem when cruising at low speeds - on motorways you can't hear it.

Now I just need to get myself down to Brands Hatch Indy, my local track but not one I've ever been to. Oh yeah and the 'Ring smile

Cheers

Joel

Looking good. I like that combined oil temp and oil pressure gauge, looks like a OE size straight swap as well.

You're right about the gearing. With a 3.92 diff and 185/60x14 tyres mine is pulling 17.1 mph/1000rpm in 6th.
The 3.62 diff might be better for touring, but mine is perfectly geared for 0-60 runs.biggrin

I have side screens with F1 type mirrors. They were off for cleaning. I wouldn't drive it on the road without mirrors, or on track for that matter.

Very nice.
to bring the rocker switches back to life and to look like new use Turtle wax 'Black Chrome'. It looks like black T-Cut. Rubbing it on didn't work very well so I applied it with a modeller's paint brush and left it overnight and then buffed off with a soft cloth and repeated the process. The switches look like new on a 1988 Supersprint. If the dashboard is faded use the same stuff.
