I've noticed my gear change becoming stiffer recently (six speed). Today I stripped down the gear lever, checked and cleaned the spherical bearing, but it made little difference. It's changing gear fine, just feels like the change mechanism is dragging/stiff. Any ideas?

detent ball. Just behind the bell housing on the top left of the box itself. Loosen it of half a turn or so.

Although the fact it's "getting" stiff does make this unlikely. I assume you've checked there's plenty of oil in it ?

Changes becoming stiffer are usually the spherical bearing though

If it's stiff when cold, try MTL oil - Ring Opie Oils - they'll advise and supply.

Time for a refresh? The six speed boxes do need refreshing from time to time.

Get in touch with Phil from Road and Race transmissions, he will be able to advise, refresh and fix. And a thoroughly nice bloke too. I believe he does all the warranty work for Caterham and certainly had a few boxes when I was last there.

I think you maybe right. I've just done a track evening and the stiffness is no worse but does seems to be noisier than than it was. It is working fine but I do get the feeling something is going on in the internals. It does run on MTL which makes for a good change but I'm not convinced it is the best oil for durability.
