Soon be a 7 owner and just saying hi.

Hi
First time poster on this part of the forum and thought I would introduce myself. Next year I turn 25 and I am going to treat myself to my first 7 for a birthday present. At the moment my weekend toy and pride of joy is a 2003 Vauxhall VX220, I have owned her for 3 years now and absolutely love it.
I have already started looking around and my budget will be a max £14000 on a 1800 k-series roadsport.
The Caterham 7 has been my dream car since I was 5 and I got my first ride in a 7. I am even hiring one from caterham for my wedding day in 5 weeks time for me and my best man to arrive at the venue in (you have to arrive in style eh).
Any advice on buying would be much appreciated.
Adam (soon to be a 7 owner) Not sure why theres an angry face on the thread title.

Hi,
I've just put my car in the for sale section. It's a 1.6 rather than a 1.8 but it has always been a match for the 1800s through the speed traps in the sprints and hilclimbs that I've done. It has all the best bits (6 speed, LSD, dry sump), looks great, goes really well and is under your budget

That's the same budget I had when I got my 1.8 K-series.There are plenty to choose from out there for that money - take your time and have fun finding the right one for you.

That is a good budget. Get as powerful a one as you can as upgrades cost far more to a lower spec car, adding and adding (but the upgrade process can be fun) and ultimately add relatively little value to the car at resale.
I am hoping to get a relatively standard or Lightly tuned example. I enjoy upgrading cars myself so hopefully I would like to add throttle bodies and other mods to complement them. That is a good budget. Obviously the mods will come in stages as and when I can afford them.

Hi Adam
i bought my caterham last year when I was 25 with a similar budget. Mine's an unmodified 1999 1.6 roadsport and I love it, especially as it's the first car I've owned. I'd recommend looking at a few and buying a quick one, they're all quick but as time goes by I get more used to it and I'm thinking about buying a faster one.
also, a half hood from soft bits for seven is brilliant, not cheap but they make the car much more usable and you can leave the full hood at home (they're fairly horrendous).
best of luck
Nick

Well as I have just got back from my honeymoon i thought I would try and upload a few pics of my hired 7 I had for our big day on 21st August.
Hope this has worked as I am no computer whizz lol. This has made my mind up on a 7. Caterham gave me a 1.6 sigma roadsport with the 6speed box and absolutely loved it. Cant wait to buy one now.

Congratulations on getting married and respect to your newly wed wife for allowing the wedding car to be a 7
Had a VX220 Turbo for 3 years which I loved but the lure of an Aston was too much just bought a Caterham the other week for some additional fun.
The VX is a fabulous car, you'll love the Caterham, it is a different experience but a great one
