Hi,

I hope this doesn't break advertising rules... I recently crashed my race car at castle combe, and simply can't justify putting any more money into it. I'm strongly considering selling it as is - how much is it worth, vaguely?. The car is latest spec mega graduate, I'd probably get 12k for it, if it wasn't broken!

Problems:
New basket required
OSR damper bent and leaking
gearbox mount has failed (the gearbox end has broken, chassis mount looks OK)
Rollcage has a cracked weld
bent A frame
poss damage to engine mounts - hopefully just bent bolts
suspected bent propshaft
suspect damaged OSR wheel bearing as rear camber is out
exhaust manifold cracked at collector
rear wings broken - I can repair+paint these fairly easily.

On the positive side, the DeDion tube and mounts not obviously damaged.

It needs stripping down, taking to Arch, then rebuilding. I imagine the market for smashed up cars is fairly small - if I did find someone to buy it, how much do you reckon it would be worth?

thanks

Bummer Pete - classic Quarry crash that frown

Some pics of the car might help the valuation, hard to tell from the description.

Sorry to see and hear re damage to your car, as stated many have done the same before you, as long as and your passenger have not suffered as a result.

Getting back to the car i could be very interested if you do decide to sell as is, as i need a project assuming it is a road legal car etc.
Also i have a seven car if you wanted something to get back on the road to enjoy this summer

It sounds like about a £3-£3.5K repair to me (mainly DIY). £6.5-7K might be the right sort of number, but I suspect there will be few buyers who want this sort of thing as you suggest.

I suggest you contact Andrew Smith via the Grads, he is one person who might be interested at the right price.

Cheers, the grads are mostly off in Zandvoort now, will post it on the forum there when they're back, and also ask mcmillan what they reckon. I'll get photos taken tonight so people have a better idea of the damage - I also thought it was a 3-3.5k DIY fix.

Obviously, things could have gone better in one way on that day (ie me not crashing!), but to be honest, things could have been so much worse, it doesn't bear thinking about... I got off very lightly, just a stiff neck and bruised wallet :-)

If I was going to rebuild it, I would definitely get a HANS device - why oh why did it take a crash for me to realise that a few hundred quid on that would be money well spent?!?!

To be honest I've been doing grads racing on a (relative) shoestring - I'm looking at karting now, possibly club100 or similar - hopefully I'll be able to do that properly, as my "races started" to "money spent" ratio was dismal, even before the crash!

Have a good ones Charles!

Photos are at https://picasaweb.google.com/108389340359189214958... - the gearbox one is not very good, as I was nervous about putting bust bits of the car on axle stands, so I waved the camera under the car and the photo is not in focus. You can see the bent front bit of the a-frame. The LH engine mount is hard to show, but the bolt appears to be leaning forward - the RH one looks OK.

Cheers,

Pete

That's a real shame, I feel for you. At least I was wearing a HANS when I crashed my radical when racing.

The problem of course is that not many people will want a damaged car. Those that do will want to make a profit out of it, and they are taking a risk of other problems like chassis damage. So I think your valuation will be pretty low sadly. I'd think about 5k.

Pete - if you want to continue racing sevens, but on a shoestring, have a look at the Locost 750MC championship. You could almost build a car for you repair costs.

Thanks all - am definitely going to sell it as is. I'll chat to McMillan (who do grads support) next week, see what they reckon, then contact people who've messaged me and advertise it.

Hi

I am interested, as I am looking for a project.

Where abouts are you based? As I would like to view it if possible?

Many thanks
Colin
