My car can tow 750kg. My R400 weighs about 520kg. Does anyone know if I could get a lightweight (230kg) or less trailer for towing it?
I could potentially save some weight by removing battery and a couple of wheels and store in the car.

Presumably the 75okgs towing capacity you quote is unbraked? Firstly I don't think you'll find a trailer weighing 230kgs suitable for a car, secondly why not just look at a decent second hand braked trailer. My car for instance can tow 750kgs unbraked but that increases to 2 tonnes for a braked trailer. To give you an idea CC are advertising a suitable trailer here: http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/preowned/pre... They sometimes come up on PH and BC for sale so should be fairly easy to find one.

Not possible I think.
Something like a Brian James Minno (braked) was great even for a Citroen ZX 1.9D - except for steep hills, but it always got there.
Braked towing limit was 1100kg. Minno is something like 375kg + 7 at 520kg + fuel 40kg + 2 extra sets of wheels/tyres ~ 96kg. I all adds up.

Don't think a 7 would fit in something as small as a micro max and with single axle it would not be much fun to tow with a light car as above 60 and it gets hairy with tail wagging the dog.
No such problem with a twin axle & right nose weight.

It's not the weight of the trailer, it' the plated weight yes Do a search in SP&L

Is the problem that you're to young for automatic trailer entitlement ? If not just use a braked trailer as mentioned earlier, you can legally to up the the maximum GVW of the car (Bran James Minno trailer is plated at 1400kg for example)

Thanks all, I think I misunderstood the rules of braked trailers and will check that out now.

The numbers for unbraked trailers are largely useless and just included in tintop owners manuals to cover liability and give you a reasonable idea what the car will tow without being a) illegal and b) very dangerous. Personally I wouldn't tow more than about 500kg without brakes, it's just too easy to jack-knife in emergency stop situations.

Any decent car transporter will be braked, and I wouldn't use anything that wasn't double axle. Once it's braked, the towing limit goes way up and the whole thing becomes easier and safer. For most decent size cars (our tow car is a Honda CRV CDTI) the braked tow limit is very usable for car trailer towing. Our CRV can tow 1,500kg
