Sure many of you guys must have seen it before, although I admit to having missed it until now.

My question is, do you think the gap between the two cars would remain similar had it been dry? Or for arguments sake even on differing tracks.

Not really after a debate, it's more curiosities sake and interest.

Cheers. smile

Nope, would of been a different game on a dry track. However I wouldn't like to say the 7 would of definitely been faster....

For comparison, evo magazine records lap times at the Bedford Autodrome. The R26.R has a time of 1min27.8 and the closest comparable Caterham is the Duratec R300 at 1min23.3. The Caterham CDX on Fifth gear had a 135bhp K-Series engine I think?

The tyres looked pretty skinny on the Caterham and it was awful wet, and muddy in places. I reckon there wouldn't be much in it in the dry.

Tim

ETA: The track was also narrow and, what with the Seven being RWD, you'd simply have to back off if you oversteered and put a wheel on the wet grass.

Yeah, those will be Avon CR322 "fuel saving" tyres as fitted to the Caterham Academy A cars...specifically designed to last forever and for people to learn about sliding about a bit smile

Quite interesting in the wet (have a look on Youtube for wet Academy races), upgrade to CR500 and you gain several seconds.

So yes, in the dry things would be more equal. With track tyres like the Megane has...maybe a bit faster. But it isn't going to waltz away over the horizon smile

The Renault is an amazing bit of kit. But I don't really "get" it in terms of practicality, other than a roof (and a Caterham with a half hood will see you right most of the time) it is hardly any more practical, is it ?

I would much rather hoon in an open top car and have the occasional wet experience, than be nice and warm on a rainy day yet miss out on the perfect 6am warm summer blats driving

But then I probably would say that wink
