Hi all,

My 7 has a coolant leak from the front of the engine. The coolant is dripping off the alternator belt pulley and from just behind it (see below). Any ideas where it might be coming from? The main feed from the header tank seems dry at each end (no leak), so that makes me think it's somewhere in the block - is this HGF? It's a 1.8 VVC.

Cheers for any help.
E.

Is that where the water pump is? It's a common place to put them.

Ewen is it on the throttle body side or the watervrail side?

If it's on the TB I'd wonder if the thermostat housing has a leak . If the water rail side when it's gasket dries up water can show up in the oddest place. Roll up a bit of kitchen roll and dip the tip into the expansion tank .

If all White you're probably all right and if not, I know we'll be down soon to help you remove engine ut let's hope ain't that!

No idea where it's coming from at the moment Steve. I'll probably get a bit of time to do some more investigation on Sunday. It's just dripping off both the front of the engine and the pulley. I need to replace the oil pipes from the dry sump tank anyway so might start dismantling it (Mustang due back next week anyway so will still have an entertaining car) to get a better view.

As you can see the whole thing needs a damn good clean.

Also got a set of TBs to go on and a LSD so it might be a partial strip down, clean up, replace, refit and rebuild.

Look around the back of the 'stat housing, it's either there or the water pump (remove the top cam belt cover to inspect)

Very unlikely for head gasket to fail like this

My guess is water pump

Ewen,

Check the water rail, had a leak there myself and it runs down the ledge on the block and then off of the pulley.
