I have a Raceline 2.3 Duratech in a Caterham SV. The air/oil separator fitted on the side of the block beneath the throttle bodies is capped off. Am I right in thinking that this should discharge into a catch tank to allow positive crank case ventilation (PCV) as well as the breather pipe from the cam cover both going to the catch tank. (This is a wet sump).

Thanks in advance for replies.

Leave the crank breather blocked off and vent the cam cover to to the catch tank.

Mick I am worried about the engine over pressurizing as below? why does the pcv valve have a discharge pipe if it is not used? Is there a danger of blowing the seals or is the pressure negligable.

From Wiki:-

An engine's combustion chamber does not have a perfect seal. At the time of ignition, some of the expanding gas leaks past the rings into the bottom (crankcase) of the engine, known as the Blowby Gases. This gas contains oil and partially burned fuel that can pressurize the bottom half of the engine, leading to blown oil seals and making it harder for the engine to work.

The Positive Crankcase Ventilation system allows a route for these gases to be scavenged and passed back through the engine for consumption. It reduces emissions and keeps the engine from over pressurizing.

your crankcase breaths via the oilways through the head and out of the cam cover breather.

the breather that's blanked is used for emissions control - your breather from the cam cover vents to atmosphere to make warm summer days

I would not worry, any pressure will still vent via the cam cover breather.
