Hmmmm,

The area just below the head gasket on the carb side of front cylinder is consistently damp with oil.

Its hard to prove the source as that area is crowded with the dizzy and dry sump pipes and pump.

I suspect the head gasket is letting some oil out.

The car only has 29000 miles.

My first inkling is that it is best left alone.
Its only wet and does not leak significant oil
The oil in the car is clean and free of any evidence of coolant

Any other views or experience with a "weeping block"

Has the rocker cover been over tightened? That's quite a good source of leaks in my experience. You'd need to straighten the flange and fit a new gasket but not quite as tight.

I'm hoping I have found the fault. The P/O had the radiator hose jammed right up to the fitting and then a clamp cranked tight. I think the weird bend in the metal neck of the water pump may have created an inability for the radiator hose to properly seal. My coolant level is low. So hopefully the wet engine block is more a function of the coolant steam escaping and spraying on the block and not oil leaking.

Tonight, I'm going to get a proper hose clamp, I will trim off a bit of the pipe and see if I can fit it properly. With any luck, a hard drive will dry out the engine.

It's a Crossflow.....if it's not spewing oil somewhere.....it needs topping up.

Good job it is not K series;-)
It is really hard to tell one leak from another on an iron head/block.
Taste might help, any super sweetness and you know it coolant. Just don't get a taste for the stuff:-)
