Are the Caterham deflectors any good? Any similar versions?

If you mean side wind deflectors - then don't bother.
If you mean aeroscreen (to replace windscreen) then that's another matter. Others with more experience of them will be along soon.

I have the deflectors and agree they are next to useless. Some people say they give an extra 15mph in so much as rather than not being able to breathe at 50mph without doors on you stop being able to breathe at 65mph.
A guy in the club made some bigger deflectors some years back and said they did a much better job, but probably at the expense of cosmetic appeal.

I love driving doors off and always put the deflectors on (if only for the look) - I always wear a buff round my neck pulled over my mouth and nose and combined with a set of Wiley XL glasses it does a perfect job being comfortable...well that is until your ears give out (and I also wear decent earplugs).

I ran with aeroscreens for a brief time and have passengered in other aero cars for many, many miles but never got on with it. Love the open appeal and but always disliked the vunerability so ended up wearing a crash helmet, which in turn spoils the 'open' experience.

There is a set of deflectors for sale on Blatchat at the mo for £30 which would be a better way of trying them out.

Cheers

The standard CC wind deflectors can be improved by heating the perpsex where it curves and making it a tighter bend to the scuttle. This will hold the deflector out more into the wind and improve its efficiency. You can try this principle by driving along and pushing the deflector into the wind and seeing if it helps your comfort.

Just get an aeroscreen and be done with it! thumbup

Mind you, either buy some very decent shatterproof glasses/goggles or you'll have to wear a helmet.

FYI, a bee/wasp/mosquito feels like a breeze block hitting your forehead at 99mph, it hurts, alot...but I like it nuts

Not true for me - the aero goes on for track and shorter blats, the windscreen is very useful when touring (a 745 mile day from Chamonix to Bath would have been somewhat trying with the aero on hehe).

You also won't get a sore right ear due to the buffeting of driving with a screen and no doors, if you go aero !

agreed - when the Mrs. is on board she gets a screen when touring (but happy to aero too - in fact she once fell asleep on a long trip !!!!)
