Thank you Sir
I did a bit of work on the head over the Crimbo Holliday's, just basically removed the valves and a wash in the parts washer.
I'm impressed again. There isn't really much to be done with the standard high port head, it's so well designed.
Nice big valves with 6mm stems.
I'll give it to the same guys who honed the block, to drop it in their ultrasonic bath, along with the timing chain cover.
The front mount on the cover was damaged, so I cleaned that up by taking it off with my recently acquired 1950 Centec mill and a quick clean up in my blast cabinet.
I'm just waiting for news from Modatek now on their stock of Cosworth parts.
They look after Cosworth's historic engine parts, and the Duratec has now been added to the list, which they will be compiling in the near future I'm told.

The nasty plastic cam cover on the engine I bought was also damaged, so I bought this lovely retro looking cam cover from Motorsport tools. They had a limited number cast up, so I just had to snap one up while I still had a chance!
oooh sexy!! Edited by mickrick on Sunday 9th January 12:26
But hope it fits in the caterham!!
I bought their BDA lookalike cam cover to fit to my zetec engined cat a few years back but it didn´t work. Everything from the oil filler cap to water runner interference problems... fine in an escort but not a tight caterham engine bay!!

This was mine, you see the oil filler cap fouls the nosecone and the bonnet, and the cover itself fouls the thermostat housing on the Raceline coolant rail. If it was just the rail, I'd have got the Retroford rail, though not as sexy & I was considering machining the filler cap to make it look more like a dry sump cam cover but then I ran into issues with the car itself being not what it was supposed to be and I returned it to the seller under breach of contract.

That story very rapidly took a turn for the worse! Did you get your money back?
I did indeed!!It was sold to me with documents testifying it was a ´68 Lotus 7 S3 which had been imported to Norway in ´96.
I know it wasn't a 100% faithful representation, few are, but I believed the chassis to be either original or remanufactured by Arch and that the car had been "restored" back in the UK in the mid 90's prior to importation...
When I applied for registration in the Lotus Seven / Historic Lotus Register, I was informed that this car was "already registered" as a LHD delivered new back in the day to North America...
Transpired the docs had all been faked & a duplicated retro chassis plate manufactured to import a mid 90´s cat into Norway using historic registration for, I can only assume, reduced taxation purposes - import tax on cars here is eye wateringly high...

My engine mounts arrived. Chris at Redline was helpful, so thanks to him for getting them for me.
People generally, Caterham included, don't tend to carry LHD SV parts.
Anyway, I had a bit of fun this morning, mocking up to make sure there are no surprises when it's all a bit heavy.
No clearance issues that I can see.
I'm cleaning up the intake ports on the head at the moment, there's quite a bit casting flash in there. But I ran out of new flap wheels for my Dremmel, so I need to buy more on Monday to finish the job.
I think it's going to look lovely in there

Even a full CNC port job doesn't remove much - they're pretty good to start with. You can sharpen up the web and remove the input stem protrusion, but that's about it. There are some bumps and lumps around the valves that are tempting to remove but it flows well and they may well be deliberate.

Hi, yes I was very conscious of not removing too much material, the lumps around the valves I didn't want to touch, it's obviously at the bottom of the plug recesses, and I don't know how thick the material is there.
As you say the heads flow good anyway, and this is a high port head so it's already worth another 10hp I read. Just a tidy up, I'm happy with that
