Hi Guys

I have just recently taken possession of my new '07 C6....after a long happy relationship with a Griff 500

Its an import, very well specced inc Z51 etc ..... and i love it.

Anyway, my first question, there will be more to follow ..... Is.....

How good is the factory alarm / immobiliser ? the car is going to be a daily driver, and will spend time outside parked up and overnight etc when im away with it.

I reckon the factory system is just a basic voltage sensing one which goes off if someone opens a door and the courtesy light comes on, like in the 70's !!! and an added immobiliser.

I would really like a microwave system, like the TVR, which would protect the car and its contents when the car was parked up with the roof left off..... its gonna be a right pain having to put the roof on all the time or stash / take with you all the things our light fingered friends can just lean in and grab.

Also modern systems also feature anti jacking / rolling codes / proximity warnings etc ..... some a little gimmicy possibly ....

Do any of you have improved alarms in your C6 ... and how do they integrate with the vehicles electronic operation ..... I suppose i dont mind carrying a second fob ..... i,d only need to get that out and not the keys :-)

cheers

Ian

The alarm in the C6 is at least as "sophisticated" as that of the Griffith. Try the following, take the roof of, leave the car locked outside in the wind without disabling the interior sensors. You will soon discover how sensitive the alarm is. If any it's to sensitive, that's why they installed a feature to switch off the interior sensors.

If you go for an aftermarket class 5 alarm (or something) make sure the installer has ample knowledge of cars with CAN bus, otherwise you will not enjoy your C6 anymore.

I don't think imports from the US have the interior (ultrasonic) sensors - they certainly don't have the sensor on/off button in the glovebox from what I've been told.

The sensors in the Griff were microwave, which is designed for convertibles etc, so the interior is protected when the roof is down, and they arnt affected nearly as much by wind.

If vettes have ultrasonic sensors as an option, they are only designed to set up a "field" within the sealed area of a car with roof on and windows up, that could be why they appear to be too sensitive and affected by a bit of a breeze..... they aint gonna be much use in the uk !!!!

I wonder then if there is scope to expand on the factory system, maybe adding microwave sensors ?

cheers

Don't bother. It's not worth the risk. You wouldn't believe the number of cars we have to fix with botched installs. If it isn't for the purposes of insurance then it simply isn't worth the potential problems you will face as the alarm and the factory locking system will inevitably struggle to interface....

I agree with Mitch my first C6 I tried to Insurnace wanted a cat 1 alarm which Euro cars meet, But in 05 they had not been tested so they were ok With a Tracker.
Do not install aftermarket alarms too much can go and will go wrong.

mmmm .... not entirely the kind of response i was hoping for ..... what i kind of expected though.

Is there anyone out there with a positive comment / recommendation ?

why is it so difficult on the vette .... surely lots of expensive modern cars have complicated electronics and have aftermarket alarms fitted ?

yours hopefully :-(

I Think most new cars have problems, You will have trouble fitting an aftermarket alarm on a New Vauxhall Astra even! Cars with Cambus and also lack of Knowledge on Corvette by Alarm Installers.

Mine's another vote for "leave the electrics alone". Find an insurer who will accept the stock system - they are definitely out there.
