Whitequay reading or Ian Goss Services in Surbiton prices can be quite expensive you have to shop around.

I got the tyres for mine from the link below.
You don't say if your car is C5 or C6, mines a C5 Z06.
Blackcircles do them online as well.

Dave.

I got mine (C6) from Merit Tyre. Prices were OK and they at least knew that you have to get run-flats from Goodyear in Germany. Contrast with Micheldever Tyres who said: "Goodyear don't do runflats in that size"....

Ditch the whole set and move to G:2's. Depending on the age of your fronts I'd be changing them as a set anyway. They work harden over time and judging they're effectoveness by the remaining tread is pretty pointless. They die long before they reach the tread-wear indicators.

That's interesting. I'm currently trying to source a set of G:2's for my C6 Z06. Any info on availability?

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a G2?

Is it "like a G6"?

It's the new version of the Goodyear Supercar runflat to fit the Corvette.

"Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 RunOnFlat" to give the entire mouthful.

You can find them in the US on www.tirerack.com Supposed to be an improvement over the old ones, but they are directional and assymetric, so you need the specifc tyre for each corner. Stocks in UK still seem to be mainly the old Supercar EMT as far as I can see.

Is it generally adviseable to change all 4 each time...?

Got a v slow puncture in the rear right, so forcing a change on 3yo tires (11k miles), so not sure whether to change all 4, or keep the front, and just change back set...thoughts?

Thanks for that. I guess just not enough users in UK (yet) for anyone to carry stock of an expensive tyre, especially if that means "4 x stock".

It is a pain. For the C6 there are run-flat options from the US that just aren't stocked in Europe (e.g. Michelin ZP, Firestone, etc) leaving the OEM Goodyears as the only option. I think a lot of it's due to the slightly unusual sizes used making it hard to "piggy-back" on a higher volume (in Europe) vehicle.

It's usually down to whether a tyre has been E-marked. Most of these alternative tyres will only have approval for sale in the US as their manufacturers won't have seen a large enough target market outside the US to make it worthwhile for them to make them available in the EU.

By not being E-marked .... does this mean i cannot fit them to my Z51 C6 ?

I was wanting to fit the Michelin PS2 ZP's as they seem to get many more favourable reviews than the goodyear supercar EMT's

If it is the case i cannot use them without invalidating my insurance ... I assume that would be the outcome .... then i will probably have to fit non runflats. .. which is a pity as i would have prefered to stick with runflats ....

Are the stock goodyears really as bad as people say in the wet ?

cheers

Well, I have a set of the PS2 ZP for my C6 Z06 coming from the US, but won't be here any sooner than end of the month. I can let you know then if they are E-marked....

I don't know if lack of E-mark will affect your insurance. But then my brakes are not Euro approved either and I'm sure that I am breakig some stupid law or other every time I get out of bed in the morning!

I have seen the front size PS2 ZP in the exact same pattern and load rating for sale here in UK (or at least listed on the net anyway) but not the rears. I don't know if your C6 Z51 uses the same sizes as the Z06? The only Euro-available non-runflat Z06 size rears (325/30-19) I have seen are Pilot Sport Cup and they are not a good wet weather tyre!

On a regular C6 they're fine in the wet as long as it's warm (certainly compared to Bridgestone run-flats I had on a BMW Z4 a while back) but when it gets cold they're useless...but I think any high-performance summer tyre would be fairly useless too. Main problem with Z06 in the wet is aquaplaning, which is more down to tyre width than tyre type.

[ Soap box time: which is why it sucks that GM no longer import narrow-body C6's which are more useable all-weather cars for so many reasons, not least of which is tyres narrow enough to allow you to go with the flow in downpours (pun intended!) ]

Even brand new standard C6 Z06 tyres are crap in the wet trust me I know.

Having said that they offer a lot more grip in the wet that the standard tyres on the Lotus Exige. Yokohama A048 tyres are a brilliant in the dry and warm but a complete liability in any other conditions, also only last about 4,500 miles so think yourselves lucky that GM at least fit a tyre although undoubtedly a bit crap does last a long time!

The life of a tyre is a subjective thing to speak of. Once the first 30% of a tyre's tread is used it can lose up to 70% of it's total grip. The number of heat cycles a tyre goes through also greatly affects how effective it can be. As a rule of thumb Goodyear F1 Supercars are well past their best after 6,000 miles of normal road use regardless of tread depth. Once you understand how tyres and cars work in the wet you'd realise the C6 Z06's Goodyears aren't so bad. It's the stiffness in the springs and roll bars that makes them less effective.

Thought I would update this a little. My order for Michelin Pilot Sport ZP from the US has become a 7 week saga (and running) so I cast around on the net again trying to find something UK supplied in C6 Z06 size that was not a semi-slick Pilot Sport Cup. So these popped up...

The rears are Conti Sport Vmax (325/30-19) and the fronts Conti SportContact 3 (275/35-18). They are slightly higher than the required load rating, but on the other hand are not run-flats. Are they any good? Well F**k knows! But they are black, round, the right size and mine for reasonable price from www.valuetyres.co.uk for £880 delivered. Strangely, the rears were a few quid cheaper than the fronts!
