Is there a buyers guide on the web for C3's you'd recommend ?
Also what you you say a "clean and tidy" C3 auto (late 70's/early 80's) would sell for ?
I wouldnt want a garage queen, or a rough car needing twice its purchase price spent to get it tidy !

last question, why are C4's so unloved ?

Ive been out of the American car scene for over 20 years and might go back to it.

Thanks

Whoa! Big question - since the C3 range was the longest running and there was quite a lot of change.

The best place to ask about C3's is on CCCUK - www.corvetteclub.org.uk - there is a really active group of C3 owners on there (probably the most active group in truth)

The C4 is the forgotten generation at the moment, and could continue to do so. Not because it wasn't a better car in most respects - but it doesn't have the classic styling of the C3, and I think electrics wise they were complex cars in their day, so I suspect many buyers are put off by that, and probably jump to a C5.

Money wise, well, I think you'd be looking at starting at 8k for a half decent C3, but better to ask the experts...

Good luck with your search!

Fran.

Big question indeed.
The main problem with all C3's is chassis and or bird cage (the steel frame round the driver compartment) rust. Check underneath and if you can remove the kick panel with the speakers in it you will be able to check the bottom of the birdcage. Mechanically they are pretty robust, just make sure the suspension and brakes are in good nick. Electrics are fairly straighforward once you are used to them, chasing down leaks to the vacuum system can be frustrating but it's a minor issue that wont affect your driving.
Have a look on the CCCUK website http://www.corvetteclub.org.uk they have a for sale section, there was a cracking 69 red convertable for sale in Ireland at £15k which imho is really cheap.
