We all moan about the price of fuel every year but now it has gone crazy and we are due another hike of 5p in April,

With fuel now circa £6.00 a gallon paying this price every 22-23 miles you do in an average family car!

This has to stop what can we do about it blocking fuel pumps! Riots! Convoys of cars to whitehall?
We need some action and need something done now. Lets not forget Road tax,Insurance Speed Cameras and Congestion charge if going into London!!!

Talk is cheap we need action but we also need everyone to band together on this,

If anyone has friends in high places in advertising and media, I would suggest that is the first place to make inroads.
An intelligent approach would be better suited to the UK rather than the French blockade option, but it will cost a fortune to organise a sustained campaign.

Another 5p a litre here will put ordinary petrol at £1.37 & diesel at £1.42. As it is I am paying £15 more a tank than just two years ago, and thats on a MINI. I would venture that c.£1.60 a litre will start to put people off driving and we could see that by the end of the year.

The only way as I see it that the price wil come down is once the additional transport costs start making their way to the consumer which in turn hits inflation, only then will anyone in charge, and I use that term loosely, start to think it may be a problem! And even then you can bet the price won't come down.

I filled my Lotus up this morning and it cost me exactly £50. Of that £50 I think about £42 went straight to the Government in fuel duty and VAT. On top of that I have to pay over £400 a year to tax the car.
I saw on the news that the quantative easing package of £200bn that the government has borrowed is still in place which I wokred out was about £2,800 per person in the UK.

So where is all this money going?

On the Dutch Spring Run a couple of years ago there was guy there with an Elise SC. Much merriment was caused by his frequent stops for fuel - I think it was barely 200 miles on a tank. Meantime everyone was taken aback that the Vette would run over 400 miles on a fill, albeit a more expensive one!

Hopefully it gets so expensive nobody can afford to drive and the roads become empty wink
Then Ill recoup days of my life and actually save money by avoiding waste and increase fuel efficiency from not standing idling on the M25.

I dont see the problem. If you cant afford it, drive a Prenis or other such turde

I used to say that when it was £3 a gallon, I don't feel quite so elitist now !!

My projected fuel bill is £2100 next year. So, road tax saving of £270 over something juicy is still over 10% of that total.

Every little helps as they say.

My Vette costs £205, and less than £200 to insure fully comp. But now it costs 31.25p/mile in gas, it'll be consigned to weekend use in good weather.

It's all going to keep going up. Let's face it, if the hauliers (who realistically have to be priced into more or less any good/service we receive) can't make it change, I don't think there's anything we can do.

Best things, if it's a cost that bothers you, drive less/drive more economically/drive a more economical car.

Realistically, I'm sure someone said we're actually better off these days anyway, if you compare what previous generations had to stump up for living overall. Most of the students I see these days have cars newer than mine! (I know that modern life brings a new set of challenges - like I'll be retiring age 402)

Can't see that ever happening. The national press, or some atleast, are manipulated by the government.

If you try to blockade etc they will trot out the old "these nasty demonstrators are harming the emergency services, old and infirmed" and get national support from a section of 'sheep' that believe all they read in the press.

Face it, for all those of us that think for ourselves there are equally a lot of stupid people who can be led along by spin.

Its been on the national news (BBC) the last two days, perhaps the more this sort of thing is talked about the more the media picks up on it and reports as its 'in the public interest'.

Or maybe thats wishful thinking....

£44BILLION on servicing the national debt. In one year. That has to stop. The government needs cash from somewhere and at least fuel duty is a "pay as you go" and you can (to an extent) choose where and how you go. I don't like paying it, to be sure. The alternative?

Just think, if they didnt throw OUR money away on stupid bloody wars....there would be no national debt whatsoever.

In fact, they seem to squander about 90% of OUR money.

A lot of that £44Bn goes to pension funds, savers and investors etc. So its not as if its wasted! It gets spent anyway.

I cannot believe just how dear fuel has got, my 'vette has been off the road for 2 years due to an engine rebuilt and other things, but I used to use it at every and any excuse. In fact it's only up until 5 years ago that I stopped using my V8's as daily transport.

I filled up the diesel daily yesterday, it cost £80!!!!!!! that's insane...

I'm amazed the truckers haven't already started road blocks, I guess they can't afford the fuel to drive to the roadblocks!

A fuel blockade cannot work as we ALL need to buy fuel.
What would possibly work would be to stop buying fuel from
the biggest two suppliers for a LONG time,
without anyone buying from ESSO and BP this would force them to
drop prices to attract custom.
The only problem will come when they do drop prices and everyone
gets their fuel from them . . . . . game over.
Everyone would have to keep it and that wont happen because people
in general will go for the cheapest fuel straight away.

Dave.

Maybe we should igone and stop using a Brand for one day How much would Esso or shell loose a day if you stoped buying fuel as a whole in the UK?? They would loose loads on just the coffee they sell!!
