It's that time of the month again. Tuesday 27th of July is the next, exclusive Club Night for the Surrey Region meeting of CCCUK and any visitors that want to chat Corvette...!

If the sun is shining GET DOWN EARLY - a lot of the crew are usually there from 7pm onwards.

The Fairmile Arms is located along the Portsmouth Road, Cobham, Surrey, KT11 1BW, between Cobham and Esher. Closest motorway junction is 10 off the M25. From there, follow the A3 towards London and come off at the first junction, then turn right, signposted Cobham. Go over a roundabout, past the BMW dealer on the right, at the next button-roundabout turn left. The Fairmile is along on the left just past the Shell petrol station.

I'd rather pay £10 and actually have food that is worth eating!

You beat me to it!, I guess you mean WIMPY ? but that's only 'cause I can't get you two to a decent pub for some proper food. At least the food there is not microwaved and you don't wait an age for it to turn up. (And it is one step up (albeit a very minor one) to a MuckyD let's face it....)

This is what the Fairmile say about their pub:

"Fairmile Sample our meal deals and taste unbelivebale value. A mouth watering menu and a warm welcome awaits". Yeh right.

... Probably written by the same person in charge of all the microwaves in the kitchen. And this is what some recent reviews say;

"Be careful about eating here, as you could end up with food poisoning just like me and my family did! Not good!!"

"On the face of it the Fairmile seems like a good value pub for eating. It does get very busy and seems to attract a lot of families with young children which makes it very noisy. We had to wait 50 minutes for our food which was good value but we were starving by the time it arrived. It was very rowdy and it served below average beer".

"Poor ventilation... Strong smell of microwaved food... 'Arcade' in centre of pub lined with fruit machines... Clueless foreign staff... It all reminds me of a 1980s motorway service station".

"Chef's just opened the tin....

Very cheap food, but cooked very badly. A few pikey's hanging around, if you're on benefit probably a good haunt but I'd stay clear. P.S. the chef is hardly likely to be shelling fresh pea's if he cant even operate the microwave."

Finally:

"If you like your food nicely microwaved with a bland and unimaginative menu, then this is the place for you".

I couldn't have put it better myself....

Thank goodness the forth Tuesday brigade are such a lovely bunch and the cars are even better!

Well Tadek,

Well there are three things.

1. Lovely BIG parking area.
2. Been meeting there for years so a lot of people just turn up - even if they haven't been for a long time, which is a benefit of course.
3. You don't have to eat there and sometimes you can actually get an edible meal, but it is a bit of a lottery.

There are several other pubs with food locally and I understand that the food quality is a lot higher. Maybe we should have a drive around one evening and check them out.

All it really takes though is for the Fairmile to charge just a bit more and offer proper food instead of deep fried or pinged crap out of a microwave. Most people wouldn't mind paying more for a properly cooked meal (and would welcome the idea), there are always the few that may whinge of course.

Oh!! and just found another comment by an on-line reviewer;

"McDonalds of a pub"

Now I know why Rob n Dave like it so much (except generally you don't get food poisoning at a McDonalds)!

Hey Chris. Two things.

1. Your pub looks great and I am pretty sure my co-rep & me for Surrey will "arrange a trip" down to your establishment.

2. You must be pretty good - anyone who owns a Bathhurst VXR8 is okay with me!

I'd invite you to sample the delights of the Fairmile but I guess you'll be too busy serving up proper nosh at your gaff....

This idea is not good, NOT GOOD. madshoot

The Quays is MY local and we don't want a bunch of Corvettes spinning the gravel out with your doughnuts and wheelies !! furious

On a more friendly note.

First of all, please accept my apologies for non-attendance tomorrow. I can't make the Surrey Meet on Tuesday night because Racing Green Cars is having a dinner out to say bye bye to a faithful colleague (now departed to the world of retirement, gardening, Porsche-polishing laugh and Parish Council meetings !).

And second, if you bring all the Corvettes to my afterwork Local (The Quays is 5 mins from Racing Green), Surrey Corvette gatherings will be invading one of my best kept secrets !

On the plus side, however, you need to know that the Quays is alongside a lake where they do wakeboarding and waterskiing. cool

The beer is good. (London Pride, Bombardier, Help The Heroes special brew, Peroni etc, etc)beer

The food is good to very good.lick

Jenny who runs it is lovely angel. So is Danielle wobble- (and I saw her first !) - and the rest of the guys are good value too.

The resident dog is called Vinnie. He's still a puppy, but he 'll get bigger - and he 's already Labrador sizeeek !

The car park has plenty of room for bunches of Vettes,

And, finally, my colleague Chris and I wouldn't go there a couple of times a week on the way home from Racing Green if we weren't made very welcome.bow

So, its worth an ROs' Recce. And and all you need do is visit Racing Green (GU12 5QD)first and we'll come with you one evening to introduce you, before you open it up to all the other Corvettistas wavey !!

Best Regards,
Chas

They also do special offers for the "Over 50's" so that will be good for Martin and Chas smile
Assuming it is referring to age and not waist size........

Blimey - so it is!!!! As Nigel remarked, me and a few others should be interested - lots of us are working up to 60 (old gits basically) and I didn't click on the "Contact us button".

As for Chas recommending your gaff to us - praise indeed, he does appreciate good food even though he serums to eat at the Fairmile now and again (and generally moans his way through the meal!)

For those who want to know where the Quay is:

The Quays,
Coleford Bridge Road
Mytchett
Surrey
GU16 6DS

Certainly more Farnborough Hants than Surrey! However it is 23 miles away and 1/2 an hour from the "Fairmile Microwave Temple". Either way I think it will be a good run out - for me it's easy, I turn left onto the A30 towards you instead of right towards the M25 for the Fairmile...

And ignore the two for a tenner calls from the two burger-buffs - if you can do it great but they ALL pay more for proper food, witnessed by many of the Surrey boys and girls also attending the Thames valley region where NOTHING is under £8 on the menu as a main course from memory. The difference is it's really very good food and worth paying the extra for.

Should we do this next month instead of the Fairmile?
