Hi guys, do anybody here know of the garage in Mildenhall that works on Corvettes? I was at a piston heads meet back in April and got chatting to a very man who had a red LS3 and he told me that he took his car there for work but i didn't get the name of the garage... I have an LS2 Monaro that is in need of a new alternator belt, it looks like it might be a ramp job to slacken off the alternator??? I would do it myself but not sure how much tension should be on the belt - I could take it to a Monaro licensed VXR dealer but i don't trust Vauxhall either.

The belt is 90% in tact apart from a 5mm/ish strip on one side which disappeared last night on my way home from Oxford, i don't know why this should happen apart from i was driving it like i had stolen it after getting stuck in traffic for 3 hours on the M25 - would this have anything to do with the strip coming off??

P.S. I was coming back after a major service but i don't really want to do the 250 mile trip just for a alternator belt...

Just put a spanner on the wheel end of the tensioner and you can take the tension off that way,do the same to get enough slack to fit the new one

Without going out to the garage to have look, from memory it the tensioner that is staring you in the face at the top of the engine on the offside. The other is accessed from underneath the car.

I reckon the bloke you spoke to at the recent pistonheads event was 'Freezer' off the CCCUK forum.

If you still need the details of the garage, you could contact him there.

Cheers, i will see if i can find him there... Out of curiosity is this the alternator tensioner? And if so any tips as it seem to be rather taught and i dont want to break anything if i replace the belt myself...

I have had a look at cccuk, but it looks like you have to be a corvette owner to join. If anyone is on there could you leave a post saying that I want to contact him. Thanks in advance

You don't have to be a "Corvette owner" to join the forum or indeed the club! Just email the membership secretary who's email address is on the www.corvetteclub.our.uk home page to join the club or you can do it via paypal on the merchandise pages from the club home page. Joining the forums is free smile

And yes, that's the tensioner. Put a good quality socket on there with an 18" breaker bar for good control and you'll have no problems at all.
