Importing a corvette from the UAE

Hi there,

I'm currently living and working in the Abu Dhabi. I have thought about buying a car out here and shipping it back to the UK when I move home. Dos anyone know what tax I will have to pay on the car? I had kind of hoped that if I keep the car for a while I would avoid at least some of the import duty and/or VAT when I did shop it back home.

As a rough guide a 2005/ 2006 car costs around GBP20K at current exchange rates. A 2006 Z06 is around GBP31-32K.

Generally, if you have lived out of the uk and owned and had the use of the car in the UAE for more than 6 months then there are no import duties or VAT to pay and it's a cheaper 'vette.
