You hear more, feel more, smell what's around you more (not always a good thing) and you don't have to drive along like your pants on are fire to enjoy your performance machine. I don't mind either tin-top or chop but I would always have a convertible in my stable ever since my first introduction with a Griff 500. Been hooked ever since.
What was the last convertible you owned Nigel?

Learnt to drive in a convertible, also first car was a 1968 MGB, first Corvette was a T-Top and had a Lotus Elan.....one thing they all had in common.....they leaked! You hear more, feel more, smell what's around you more (not always a good thing) and you don't have to drive along like your pants on are fire to enjoy your performance machine. I do like Convertibles and usually hire them in the USA where you can use them more than once or twice a year like I seem to find in the UK.
Twice a year?! I think that underlines you haven't had a modern convertible over here to use on a daily basis. Most of the time you can actually drive with the roof down and even the pain that it was with the Griffiths (it was a joke getting the roof on and off and edging it back into the boot), I still drove with it off most of the time.
With regards to leaks I certainly didn't have that problem with my C5 (yes I sure did with the Griffs around the 1/4 light section) and I'm sure you'll find the same with the C6.
If I could have bought a Z06 in a convertible (if such a beast existed) I still wouldn't have done so. Firstly I think the shape of the C6 Coupé is better looking that the soft top variant. Second, If you want the performance version of the range then soft tops aren't usually an option although Porsche are bucking the trend with their latest 911 I gather.
I always chuckle when people say to me "but when do you get the opportunity to drive with the roof down?", usually made at night in the winter when i do usually have the roof up. That question only ever comes from someone that hasn't owned a modern convertible.

I couldn't have put it better myself: (Taken from the drop top R8 thread but still totally relevant).

However it seems no journalist likes convertibles. They are dismissed as posers cars in every recent article, this one included.
While there are a number of desperately misguided people who think showing off their bald patch in a city in some strange way make them look 'cool' (or presumably the idea is to make them look 'wealthy') there are also a number of people who love the experience of driving a fast convertible on a great road, yes, even when no-one is watching.
Having owned a number of tin tops I think for a car bought purely for driving pleasure, being able to take the roof off adds hugely to the experience. And even more so on a car with an exotic engine. The view outside for one, when you're driving in scenery worth looking at, is hugely better than a fixed roof car. The reality is, an Audi R8 or Gallardo is not really the last word in precision as a tin top anyway. Something like a Lotus Elise is a far superior. And something like a caterham is a far better track car than any lardy 'supercar'.
So I figure the joys of a convertible version outweigh the small sacrifice in precision. Since owning my first convertible (a Honda S2000) in 2003 I don't think I could go back to a fixed roof car now.

222mph is seriously impressive for a convertible, and it's a proper sleeper too. Is there a world record for a ragtop? I remember Autocar taking an open Bentley to just over 200 last year, and I know there's a Veyron convertible now, but has anyone vmaxed one?
Somehow a bit GAY because it's a convertible? I don't think so......Edited by G4HKS on Friday 19th March 23:15
