Hi folks.

OK it looks like importing a ‘Vette from the US will cost megabucks. What about importing from Europe? Obviously the exchange rate is not good at the moment but assuming that the pound strengthens against the Euro at some time in the future it may be worth considering. Is it possible to buy a car in Europe and drive it home?

Just been looking into this having read the new wave of Euro nonsense as my 'vette is a Middle East import.

It seems (currently) as if as long as you have the all important Certificate of Conformity or EU type approval then importing from anywhere into the UK should be fine.

I was thinking that if the new proposals become law you could import new American cars into the Isle of Man as, not being part of the EU, we will continue the status quo. These could then be sold on as normal but it looks like this would then be caught by not having EU type approval when susequently imported into the UK particularly as Certificates of Conformity would not be forthcoming.

It may be that a low tax european country is the only avenue left open so we would only get 'official' US cars rather than the full range.
