I have to say that the new body is much better looking than the old one. Much more like the road car, which is why they had to change it.
I'm surprised they've kept the same name, they look so different!

This is a GT2 car now, right?
Any comparative lap times yet?

Are the old C6.Rs eligible to run in the new FIA GT1 Championship? I'm getting confused...

Yes you are correct it is a GT2 spec car and is homologated against the ZR1 body shape. The old C6R GT1 cars have been "grandfathered" i.e. changed to the new GT1 specification and they will be running in FIA GT1 World Championship. 4 Corvettes will be racing at Silverstone at the beginning of May.

But not by Corvette Racing anymore, right?

Do you know the spec differences they had to implement to change them to the new GT1 specs?

Hi

The cars that are running GT1 in the new World Championship are not run by Corvette (Pratt and Miller) The new GT2 cars have to be based more around the road car. If you want comparative lap times, look at the American Le Mans Series web site, The GT2 Vette raced at Petite Le Mans last year, so you can see the lap times compared to 2008 when the GT1 ran there. Alternatively, the Sebring winter test is on Monday/Tuesday and you will be able to see the comparison from 2009 GT1 to 2010 GT2

What about the differences, if any, between last year's GT1 and this year's one? I thought the FIA GT1 Championship - a new series starting this year - had slightly different regs from the ALMS/European LMS?

I did make an attempt at understanding what was going on this year but rapidly gave up in the face of an overwhelming mass of detailed rules, exceptions and interim measures.

The important thing is there will be some/several/plenty of Corvettes at Le Mans!

It does have different regs, due to a lack of new cars, they have "grandfarthered" in cars like the Vette's and Astons and given them restrictions to make them competative against the new cars

The only thing I'd say about that is that the GT2 car of last year wasn't the 'built for the purpose' GT2 car that they're racing this year. This years GT2 car is an all-new affair with the 5.5ltr engine that hasn't been raced in ALMS before.
